It my distinct honour to be reporting to you from Canada. Saw my first big league game here, back when it was the Skydome. Sat in the right or left field nosebleeds for Orioles-Jays. I remember looking straight down at the top of Joe Orsalak’s head. Then a kid sitting behind us had too many snacks and puked on my mom. That got us moved to a seat right behind the plate, compliments of the Jays. Ah, memories.

No official word on Antonio Bastardo yet, but a team source tells me he will see team physician Michael Ciccotti within the next few days.

Jimmy Rollins is out of the lineup tonight again, and Charlie Manuel indicated that the, um, mental break could last longer than the two days initially planned. He is taking it day-by-day.

Somebody please tell me again why we shouldn't be concerned with the offense? Six innings, ZERO hits, 7 K's. Is there a stronger word than pathetic? The Phillies just saw him a week ago and sstill cannot hit him. I really get tired of people saying this is one of the best offenses in baseball because that is obviously not true. It's not true now, wasn't true two weeks ago, or two months ago. You just cannot count on this offense week-in, week-out. Throw in the fact that our #1 pitcher, our "Ace", throws 105 pitches in 4 and 2/3, gives up 8 hits and four runs, and is watching the game from the dugout before the fifth inning is over.

Disgraceful! Disgraceful!! Disgraceful!!! Are they pressing knowing, that every night, they have to out score the other team with A LOT of runs?

With Ibanez gone, the line-up looks dead...seemed like he was always getting everything fired up but that might be my new man crush speaking.

You are predicting the Phills will lose while they are down 5-0? I guess we better take your word as fact...that's a leap

Phillies08, I like Charlie, but I fear you are right if this continues into the beginning of July. The real problem lies w/Amaro and what wasn't done in the off season, not any change that Charlie has/hasn't made. Andy, nice word play on "honour." Thanks for writing to the intelligent reader.

I feel sorry for the fans that traveled to Tampa and Toronto. This team is playing with no emotion or heart. As long as they are getting paid, they do not care. Amaro should withhold their paycheck until they start playing decent ball. Rollins should be traded

Giving Rollins a break makes sense, but does it make sense when his replacement is worst defensively and an even worse hitter for his entire career? Bruntlett doesn't belong in the MLB, let alone starting for us in place of a horrible playing Rollins.

I wonder if Charlie is missing Jimmy Williams.

About Matt Gelb and Bob Brookover

Bob Brookover and Matt Gelb team up for their third straight season covering the Phillies for the Inquirer and philly.com.

This is Brookover’s second stint writing about the Phillies, having joined the coverage team after seven years as an Eagles beat writer. Brookover was hired by The Inquirer in 2000 as the Phillies beat writer after spending 13 years writing about the team for two suburban newspapers. While on the Eagles beat, Brookover, who had covered just two winning Phillies teams in 15 seasons, saw the Phillies move into a cash-cow new ballpark and begin playing a brand of the game he found unrecognizable. Follow him on Twitter here.

Gelb is in his third season covering the Phillies. He was hired by The Inquirer in August 2009 after graduating from Syracuse University. He has also covered baseball at The Star-Ledger and Cape Cod Times. Born and raised in Bucks County, he attended Central Bucks High School West. Follow him on Twitter here.
