Rollins: 'We'll win 100 games'
Matt Gelb, Inquirer Staff Writer
CLEARWATER, Fla. -- As he enters what could be his final season in the only organization he has ever known, Jimmy Rollins is doing what he knows best.
It's prediction time.
"We'll win 100 games," Rollins said Saturday. "I really plan on going after, what is it, Seatlle won 114 [sic] or something. ... We'll go get somewhere hopefully in that range. But that requires everybody doing their job."
So the bar has been set. It's "We're the team to beat" but with an even greater confidence. That's already understood. Now, Rollins says the Phillies are going for even higher standards.
And it's a huge year for the shortstop, who reported to camp nearly two weeks ahead of the mandatory date. Typically, Rollins is one of the last players to arrive.
After playing in just 88 regular-season games, Rollins wanted to be here early. In the off-season, he began a yoga program under the instruction of his wife, Johari, and also did long-distance running for the first time. He did five-mile runs twice a week.
"I missed a lot of time last year, so no time to take that extra time off," Rollins said.
He is a free agent at season's end, but the way Rollins sees it, if he has a good season, there will be no question what happens.
"If I have a good year, I'll probably spend the rest of my career here," Rollins said. "There's no doubt about it. If I don't, it'll be a tough decision for me."

- Yeah JRoll! "Let them have it...For real."
- Can't tell you all how excited I am for this season to start. The upbeat attitude on this forum is contagious. That said, I sure hope we win the first game.
Yup - it all starts April 1st - I sure hope we are not "fooled"... M60tanker- I'd love to see JRoll retire as a Phillie and it all starts with this year. s
- I'd love to see JRoll retire. Period.

jimmy, i'd rather see a prediction from you that your BA will be above .250 and OBP above .200, mmkay? zwarte piet
100 would be great just as long as you win the last game... lewisbratspis
How bout get some hits and stay healthy this year, JRoll. Predictions are about as cool as sandpaper skeder028
I keep hearing how hard of a decision it will be to sign Rollins if Rollins has another down year. If Rollins has the same year he had the last two, it will easy to sign him bc no one will be offering him anything above 3-5 million a year and the Phils can re-sign him and bat him 8th. See Polanco's last contract. UncleStosh- Be smart at the plate if you're the leadoff hitter shawnmac
He meant to guarantee that he'd play in a 100 games. farley
110 games Jimmy, let's not be shy. StorminNorman
Comment removed.- Turd, if you you were there, watching this team pre-2007, like I was, then you should not be bugged at all.
If you ONLY started watching the games, buying the tickets, and wearing the "gear" AFTER 2007, you just might be a front-runner.
The change in attendance between then and now tells you that there are at least a few hundred thousand of them out there at least. But also that there are a few million fans who would do not deserve that label either.
Oh, one more thing. If you are one of these "Yankee and Phillies fans"........yea you are just a scumbag, which is worse than a front runner. There is a special place in hades for you. Steveo31
