Jimmy Rollins has been scratched from today's lineup against the Mets.
Rollins Scratched, Myers Wild
Todd Zolecki
The Phillies just announced that Jimmy Rollins has been scratched from this afternoon's lineup against the Mets at Shea Stadium. Eric Bruntlett is taking his place, and hitting leadoff.
We don't know why Rollins has been pulled, but when we do we'll let you know.

Harry Kalas, who had surgery to repair a detached retina last Friday, has been cleared to return to work and will rejoin the team Saturday. He will travel with the team Sunday to Washington DC.

Running behind schedule today because of the 12:10 p.m. first pitch, so here's a look back at last night's 6-3 loss. Jim Salisbury said it's too early to tell how Project Remedy has worked for Brett Myers. Billy Wagner didn't "suck it up" Tuesday, but shutdown the Phillies last night. And in the Phillies Notebook: So Taguchi knows he's not getting more playing time anytime soon and the chances of the Phillies getting Xavier Nady before the July 31 non-waiver trade deadline.
And here's my last words to you cg. Listen, genius, the championship teams from NY over the years includes NY Giants baseball teams, Brooklyn Dodgers, besides Mets, Yanks, Jets (who have won more SB's than the BEagles, by the way). When you root for teams from Philly, the last thing you should be doing is getting on NY pro teams. Like I said before, it's hoot. It's like the difference between Tijuana and Beverly Hills! The Wizard- Here are my last words for The Wizard...just because the helmets say NY on it doesn't change the fact that they don't even play in that state...they play in NEW JERSEY...You can't even afford to put "your" team in your town...lol. Therefore any championships that the Giants and Jets, since they play in the Meadowlands too, have won don't count because they don't even PLAY in your state. If it weren't for the Yankees holding that city alive on championships you wouldn't be anything either...peace out. cg
OK, Truth. Here it is.....WHERE IS CHASE UTLEY? He hasn't been hitting all that well for a little while. Hope this isn't the beginning of another *slump*! But I agree with KarenA.....His defense helps this team a lot! Norma
Sorry I got you Filly fans so angry. Believe me, I know why you are. The Fillies are playing like the Mets did last month...and it makes one want to pull his/her hair out. And very angry! My blogs are all in fun..I expect you to give me hell. This race is going to go down to the wire. After all these years, there is finally a rivalry between two teams so close to one another geographically. In the past when one was up, the other one was down. Not anymore. The Wizard
Yo Wiz, where were you after that mess on Tuesday night. I can see you on your PC ready to write about how the Mets just won the first game this important series and then...oops. Then you just deleted the post you were ready to submit and went back to the XXX website you have bookmarked so you could see what a woman looked like for the first time in your life. Seriously bro, you're a fraud. get out of here. Billy The Kid- Wizard. I will give you the Giants, but no one saw that coming last year, but these hot dooging Mets think they are a lot better than they really are. If we had an unlimited payroll like the Yankees beleive me there would be more Flags at the Bank.
Get lost Wizard. We don't need you here. We know our collective sports owners and teams suck. We don't need to be reminded by a boot licking new yawker. Besides the Yankees, your teams really haven't done very well. Stick to Metsblog fool! James TL
Hey cg, before bad mouthing NY teams, why don't you sit down and see how many professional sports team championships NY has won and how many Philly has won. It's so lopsided, it's a joke. The more you write, the funnier it gets! Oh, and did I mention the Giants just won their third SB. How many has the BEagles won? How many WS has the Fillies won? What a hoot! City of mostly losers, year after year after year. The Wizard
Right now I'd like to deposit an entire bunch up the collective tailpipes of the Phillies players (except Cole Hamels, Brad Lidge and Jamie Moyer who have been doing their jobs). They look like they are mailing it in right now. I would suggest to everyone here--- don't get your hopes up EVER with this team! They are the worst franchise in the history of baseball. Their management cares only about making money. They know they don't have to win, just make it look like they are trying. Until a new owner or owners is found, nothing ever will change. James TL
He Wizard, Mets aren't winnin sh*t either pal. Matt- I agree with mick314, I have been saying all year he never (now we know 95% at least) retires the side in order. Thank god the Phils play the Braves next, but then again what are the chances they keep beating them each time out.
Yep, the inability to make sac flies is really frustrating. Easy for me to say but I'm not earning $10M a year. That's such fundamental baseball but you rarely see it with the Phils. Jeffy3- Let the Mets faithful talk their junk now because we ALL know it's not a done deal until they've clinched and they have 2 1/2 teams to contend with (the half is Atlanta if they ever decide to reach their potential this season). Just ignore them, NY fans period just like to talk trash because for some reason they think their teams are gold...hey Wiz...how about them Knicks, Jets, Isles, Sabres, Bills (I would say Yanks but it's too early to count them out)? Yeah, that's what I thought no go away. From now on I will disregard anything from NY fans in this post like they don't exist. I suggest others do the same. We still have plenty of arguing to do with Truth...lol. cg
- cg: "banana in his tail pipe" Very good! Made me laugh on an otherwise lousy day, Phils-wise. bobby
Comment removed.- Rollins was benched for being late to the ballpark. He's not hustling and now he can't get to the ballpark on time.
Ok Truth, are we allowed to rag on Jimmy now? We've started ragging of Chase now for being in a slump but is it alright to rag on Jimmy for now hustling or being at the ballpark on time? He arrived only an hour prior to the game when everyone else seemed to be there on time, Truth, can I have your excuse for Jimmy's lateness? Was it because Chase put a banana in his tail pipe (I know you'd love that excuse since you hate Utley as it is)? Or maybe Shane Victorino gave him a surprise (but 2 day late) pie in the face for his 2 run double 2 nights ago before they left for the game. Either way, good for Charlie showing he's got a pair (and not of women's shoes or turtle doves either). cg
METS 9 FILLIES 4 with 5 games to go. Last September seems like years ago, eh folks? What a core of stars..."Snowshoes" Burrell, "Strike Three" Howard, FUtley, and a back to normal Rollins. Werth and Vicarino look like your best players now. The Wizard
Rollins does not like the Philadelphia Phillie organization. He had to beg for his modest contract. He does not like the way they have treated former MVP Ryan Howard who roomed with Rollins upon being called up initially. He sees them give big money to the personality challenged Utley while he had to beg for his....THE PHILLIES ARE A CLASSLESS ORGANIZATION. Truth- If that's true, that Jimmy Rollins sat because he was late, then... Houston, we have a problem. A big problem. bobby

That comment should have been, "I'll be willing to BET it's horrible." Sorry, grammar police. uncle meat
Rollins was late!!!! Ship him out now! What an insult to your teammates! Casey
I've been trying to find this stat and can't - what is the Phils team batting average with the bases loaded since the start of last year? Or, what was it last year, and then this year? I'll be willing to be it's HORRIBLE! They come up SMALL in that situation routinely. uncle meat
wrong two words - with regard to Rollins sitting: hang-ovah. Bake McBride- Here are the changes in Utley's day-to-day operation since last year: He's got a new $85MM contract, a new wife, and no Aron Rowand. So it has to be one of the following... he's not comfortable with money, the old lady (sorry gals) is on his a$$, he misses his old buddy Rowand too much, or finally, he is hiding an injury. Judging by the way he throws, I wouldn't be suprised if he has rotator cuff problems. RAS
Horrible effort by the Phils today. GHOSTPHAYCE
Jimmy made the game. he was nice enough to ground out into the final out of the game..thanks j/o tdoc
Pull the trigger on a deal Gillick. Anything to wake this team up. Matt

A few days ago I read that the Phillies were tied for last in the majors in sacrifice flies - with the K.C. Royals. How embarrasing is that??? PYW
"Me Too! Blank the Phlops! Time to go surf'n and then read up on the Iggs. BLANK the PHLOPS!!!" ... Ok, just to clarify, I could NEVER get so frustrated with the Phillies that it would make me spend one minute paying ANY attention to that third rate, cut-throat football organization or identify myself with their low-class, trailer-trash fan base that gives my home such a bad name. acerulli

As I said long ago(its funny how many of my projections are correct). This team needs to strengthen its supposed strength. The need to add Fuentes now!!!!!!This is not the same Phillies team that won the 8-6, 7-5 gm. The Phillies are good enough to keep both teams in the game until the last out PERIOD. How can the D-backs do what they sensibly did and the Phillies trade for the Pillsbury Dough boy? I really have more respect for Andy reid by the day. He simply doesn't follow others(Cubs, Brewers) just to do it. He charts his own course and has generally been proven right. PAT GILLICK SHOULD BE FIRED BEFORE HE CAN QUIT WITH HONOR!!!!! Truth- Here is where the bullpen comes back down to earth, and if they continue not to hit. Well we all know the rest.....How does Werth stink 32 pitch? He give more of an at bat than the everyday players. Sit Utley, he is killing them right now.

Me Too! Blank the Phlops! Time to go surf'n and then read up on the Iggs. BLANK the PHLOPS!!! dksurf
95% of the time(possibly MOPRE), Madson cannot retire the side, especially when he is in a 'hold' situation. Sure, he has a decent ERA, but he just cannot deliver when there is pressure. Look it up ! mick314
Frankly, you're lucky to win a game in a series where your No. 3 hitter goes hitless and the middle of your lineup drives in one stinkin' run. Moyers deserved a better fate. This is the umpteenth game he pitched this year when he got terrible run support. PYW
I am officially off the bandwagon. If they couldn't build on Tuesday night's win, nothing is going to wake this team up. Unless Cole Hamels gets so ticked off he starts throwing at his own teammates (and he would be justified if he did!) acerulli
John in LA- WOW is all I can say, you do have an unbiased bone in you body! Now all we need is JIMMYMACK and Norma to chime in and ask WHERE IS CHASE UTLEY! In all seriousness this whole lineup is completely out of whack without Rowand, its sad to see. Yes the bottom of the line up came up big against a mop-up pitcher the other night but that was an anomaly. As far as todays game wouldn't John(2 million per yr)Rauch have looked real good in the 8th inning. The D-Backs gave up a career minor leauger for him, a true Mike Bourn type. Wouldn't Fuentes have looked good in their today. Could Happ have been any worse than Blanton on Tues? Personally, I believe he would have been much better. The decisions of this BRAINTRUST are baffling to say the least. To steal from Bill Conlin, If I was GM----- Truth
A few concepts this team needs to learn before it can ever REALLY consider itself a contender: 1. Plate discipline (Milt? Do you even TRY to do your job?), 2. Pitch recognition (anyone else tired of seeing these guys swing 4 1/2 minutes before the ball gets to the plate because they cannot recognize a breaking ball?), 3. Strike outs MATTER (Ryan Howard?), and 4. Pitching MATTERS (and it is worth PAYING FOR!!!!). acerulli
what is wrong with this team !!! this is painful..a Philly fan living in NYC and hearing about the Mets in first is worst than the Giants winning the super bowl..the phils are better than this, at least I thought..when are utley and rollins going to come around ??????? they are killing us ! tmac71
I want the last 2.5 hours of my life back nephillychick
BOBBY: It would have been great to see Moyer pitch the 8th, but Charlie is always going to err on the side of caution with his pitch count. Last year Moyer wore down a bit and Charlie has said many times that he was going to monitor him more closely to keep him strong for the entire season. Hopefully it will work out because we could have used that one more inning from Moyer today. bski
I'm pissed... dksurf
Dumbest post in months: "jimmy rollins had a career year last year while most of the top players had a down year, but rollins benefited from the small park just like ryan howard did the year before." ... You need to look at Rollins's home-road splits last year. ALL of his offensive numbers were better on the road last year, except his home run total, which was 18 at home, 12 on the road. And even that is not an overwhelming difference. acerulli- And just like that it's over. For the 2nd game in a row our vaunted bullpen stunk. Anyone questioning pulling Moyer in the 8th? I know that's the usually the move, but with pitching so precious right now, I wonder if we'd have been better off having Jamie out there for one more inning. He was at 91 pitches and owning the Mets lineup. Just a thought. Tough loss to take. bobby
Yep! Jeffy3
Phils wasted a great pitching effort by Moyer!! There goes 1st place. Good thing the Braves are coming to town(minus Chipper Jones). They seem to be the only team they can consistently beat. KarenA- BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! RAS
congrats! great job, utley whiff, whiff, whiff, howard, same...werth stinks, bases loaded, nothing..they will not see 1st place again..someone needs to get fired 32pitch- It's not complicated. When a guy is playing like crap, he's playing like crap. Howard was early in the year, Rollins has been somewhat all year, and Utley has for the past month or so. bobby
Comment removed.
They have to have this game...Werth is money, even though he didn't come through there... CFioren317- Guess not... bobby
- OK, Howard avoids the K and gets on base. Werth up with bases loaded... Mets bring in Heilman, who we love to beat up. Is there magic in the air?? bobby
thats 7 words! pieman
I can't believe I'm saying this...but Chase Utley is officially boo-able. mphils
It's a long season. When it's over, we can assess how they did. I think having these challenges makes it more interesting...if they make the playoffs. Let's see how they deal with this. My only concern: Is there a problem between Rollins and Manuel developing? MikeP- You gotta hand it to Bruntlett. He's showing us what a hungry ballplayer can do. But alas, Utley strikes out... for the 3rd time! (Somebobdy wake me. Am I really bashing Chase Utley???) bobby
In Cole's defense a few a his starts I think have been no decisions plus the offense has not been behind him in his last couple of starts. I think Moyer has been amazing (especially since he and I are of similar age) and deserves much credit. I hope they re-sign him for next year. Utley has look a bit lifeless at bat, but his defense is still excellent. KarenA

Maybe hes been partying it wid the ladies now that burrelll is retired. go- Just as I was about to write that the Phils can't waste this amazing effort by Moyer, Werth hits his homer. Now let's build on it. And while we're talking about Moyer... Has anyone else been a little annoyed at all the praise heaped on Cole Hamels when Jamie Moyer has as good or even better numbers in the categories that really count? I'm not knocking Hamels, but until he starts posting serious W's, let's hold off on the HOF talk, OK? And let's start giving Moyer his due. If he hangs in there to win today (which appears to be up to the offense, doh!), he'll go to 10-6. In other words, he's been this team's best starter this year so far. bobby
Not getting runners at third with less than two out home is the BIGGEST problem the Phillies have had this year. They tie it up, but really, they should be up a run. It won't get noticed if the game goes to extra innings, but it is HUGE. CFioren317
I am PISSED! dksurf
two words- Home Run Derby suckas cant hit now! go
Bruntlett gets a leadoff double and we can't score. That's what is wrong with this team, not the pitching. Matt- OK, I'm finally ready to ask the question: Where is CHASE UTLEY? bobby
- I think Milt Thompson's approach with the guys is becoming old and stale. He's a good guy and well liked, but I think they probably need a new perspective. So see ya Milt. How bout a varitable kook like John Kruk to liven up this bunch of zombies? RAS
Rollins is sick. PattiA
The right-handers aren't exactly setting the world on fire against lefties either. PYW
I was watching the pre-game interview with Jimmy Rollins last night with a friend who does not watch baseball. My friend asked me "What's wrong with that guy? (Jimmy) He looks tired." A good assessment from someone who knows nothing about the game. Something is wrong with Jimmy Rollins. PattiA
Can this paper scratch Jim Salisbury from covering the team? shoeshineboy
LET'S ALL FREAK OUT!! Patrick M

Todd, do you have any idea when they will tell us what's up with Rollins? At this point, is the team going to keep the cause of his scratching under wraps until the game is over? MattS

I also agree with Truth - Utley's disappearance since the beginning of June has killed the Phils. John in LA
I know I'll get all the numbers on how Madson has been terrific this year - but he's the last guy I want on the mound when the game really matters. John in LA
