The Phillies just announced that Jimmy Rollins has been scratched from this afternoon's lineup against the Mets at Shea Stadium. Eric Bruntlett is taking his place, and hitting leadoff.
We don't know why Rollins has been pulled, but when we do we'll let you know.

Harry Kalas, who had surgery to repair a detached retina last Friday, has been cleared to return to work and will rejoin the team Saturday. He will travel with the team Sunday to Washington DC.

Running behind schedule today because of the 12:10 p.m. first pitch, so here's a look back at last night's 6-3 loss. Jim Salisbury said it's too early to tell how Project Remedy has worked for Brett Myers. Billy Wagner didn't "suck it up" Tuesday, but shutdown the Phillies last night. And in the Phillies Notebook: So Taguchi knows he's not getting more playing time anytime soon and the chances of the Phillies getting Xavier Nady before the July 31 non-waiver trade deadline.
congrats! great job, utley whiff, whiff, whiff, howard, same...werth stinks, bases loaded, nothing..they will not see 1st place again..someone needs to get fired 32pitch- BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! RAS
Phils wasted a great pitching effort by Moyer!! There goes 1st place. Good thing the Braves are coming to town(minus Chipper Jones). They seem to be the only team they can consistently beat. KarenA
Yep! Jeffy3- And just like that it's over. For the 2nd game in a row our vaunted bullpen stunk. Anyone questioning pulling Moyer in the 8th? I know that's the usually the move, but with pitching so precious right now, I wonder if we'd have been better off having Jamie out there for one more inning. He was at 91 pitches and owning the Mets lineup. Just a thought. Tough loss to take. bobby
Dumbest post in months: "jimmy rollins had a career year last year while most of the top players had a down year, but rollins benefited from the small park just like ryan howard did the year before." ... You need to look at Rollins's home-road splits last year. ALL of his offensive numbers were better on the road last year, except his home run total, which was 18 at home, 12 on the road. And even that is not an overwhelming difference. acerulli
I'm pissed... dksurf
BOBBY: It would have been great to see Moyer pitch the 8th, but Charlie is always going to err on the side of caution with his pitch count. Last year Moyer wore down a bit and Charlie has said many times that he was going to monitor him more closely to keep him strong for the entire season. Hopefully it will work out because we could have used that one more inning from Moyer today. bski
I want the last 2.5 hours of my life back nephillychick
what is wrong with this team !!! this is painful..a Philly fan living in NYC and hearing about the Mets in first is worst than the Giants winning the super bowl..the phils are better than this, at least I thought..when are utley and rollins going to come around ??????? they are killing us ! tmac71
A few concepts this team needs to learn before it can ever REALLY consider itself a contender: 1. Plate discipline (Milt? Do you even TRY to do your job?), 2. Pitch recognition (anyone else tired of seeing these guys swing 4 1/2 minutes before the ball gets to the plate because they cannot recognize a breaking ball?), 3. Strike outs MATTER (Ryan Howard?), and 4. Pitching MATTERS (and it is worth PAYING FOR!!!!). acerulli
John in LA- WOW is all I can say, you do have an unbiased bone in you body! Now all we need is JIMMYMACK and Norma to chime in and ask WHERE IS CHASE UTLEY! In all seriousness this whole lineup is completely out of whack without Rowand, its sad to see. Yes the bottom of the line up came up big against a mop-up pitcher the other night but that was an anomaly. As far as todays game wouldn't John(2 million per yr)Rauch have looked real good in the 8th inning. The D-Backs gave up a career minor leauger for him, a true Mike Bourn type. Wouldn't Fuentes have looked good in their today. Could Happ have been any worse than Blanton on Tues? Personally, I believe he would have been much better. The decisions of this BRAINTRUST are baffling to say the least. To steal from Bill Conlin, If I was GM----- Truth
I am officially off the bandwagon. If they couldn't build on Tuesday night's win, nothing is going to wake this team up. Unless Cole Hamels gets so ticked off he starts throwing at his own teammates (and he would be justified if he did!) acerulli
Frankly, you're lucky to win a game in a series where your No. 3 hitter goes hitless and the middle of your lineup drives in one stinkin' run. Moyers deserved a better fate. This is the umpteenth game he pitched this year when he got terrible run support. PYW
95% of the time(possibly MOPRE), Madson cannot retire the side, especially when he is in a 'hold' situation. Sure, he has a decent ERA, but he just cannot deliver when there is pressure. Look it up ! mick314
