Amaro: Rollins remains candidate for DL
Matt Gelb, Inquirer Staff Writer
An MRI on Jimmy Rollins' right knee revealed a deep bone bruise and Ruben Amaro Jr. said the Phillies will decide in the next 24 to 48 hours whether their shortstop needs to go on the disabled list.
Rollins scoffed at the idea.
"If I go on the DL, it's purely because they made a bad decision," Rollins said. "You can write that."
Amaro said Rollins was feeling better from Sunday to Monday. But the MRI showed bruising on both his patella and another bone near his right kneecap.
"He got himself pretty good," Amaro said.
In a strange twist, Rollins said he has Kenny Lofton to thank for not being injured more seriously. When Lofton was with the Phillies in 2005, he suggested Rollins wear knee pads for sliding head first. Rollins said the foul ball hit him square on the knee pad.
"Without the pad, something might have been fractured," Rollins said.
Rollins said he did some throwing drills on the field Tuesday and plans to run on a treadmill during the game. He expects to take full batting practice Wednesday.
"We'll see how he reacts," Amaro said.
If Rollins has to go on the disabled list, Pete Orr is a likely candidate to be recalled for infield depth. Charlie Manuel said he plans on resting Chase Utley on Wednesday, so that means the middle infield will likely be Wilson Valdez and Michael Martinez.

Brad Lidge was examined by team physician Michael Ciccotti and no serious damage was found in his elbow. Lidge called it a normal "flare up" he's used to experiencing in spring training. So he was given a cortisone shot. (A Twitter follower joked that Lidge is more cortisone than man now, and that might not be far from the truth.)
Lidge is still looking at a best-case scenario of returning around the All-Star Break. He, of course, said it would be "ridiculous" for him to be the team's closer with Ryan Madson doing so well.

Brian Schneider (strained left hamstring) will return to Philadelphia for an examination this weekend. He could begin a rehab assignment early next week.
Amaro did not have a date for Joe Blanton (right elbow inflammation) to begin a throwing program. He said the righthander must return to Philadelphia for an exam before he is cleared. Blanton is working out in Clearwater.

Sorry, Lidge you might have played your last game as a Phillie already. palmyra21
Lidge really is a good guy. If he had been able to remain healthy we would have love him. Alas, he had not been able. Frustrating, but no reason to bust on him. I am sure he would like to be healthy. johnny eagle
Rollins' hope of getting new contract are gone. farley- Ohh, Rollins will get a new contract, but it just might not quite be to Rollins liking. It will probably be his last big contract and he will be looking to cash in, and I don't see that happening here....

Bye Bye Lidge and Rollins.....and I can't wait to not see them on the roster next season. Rollins is the dumbest player on the team, after Victorino, and Lidge is always hurt anyway. See ya boys.... scootch- Are you as charming in the real world as on here? Here you announce to all "I am a sch_muck". COskier
Damn knee pads. drunk13
Can't wait to see Rollins go and something tells me Cholly will still put Rollins in the leadoff spot even after he leaves. And wouldn't make any less sense than it does now. JuanSamuel4prez
See ya Rollins........Time to take a seat or should i say a seat for the year! MRD- RAJ handling of DL is Like Andy Reid and Gameday Time MGMT Kevinmac
Valdez can hit just as good lately anyway so i dont think the team will miss much, he has a better arm and glove too. peter long
