Hey, another run!Jim Salisbury asked a question I'm sure on most people's minds last night as they watched the Phillies pound the Rockies at Citizens Bank Park:

"Where was this in October?"

The Phillies scored a season-high 20 runs in a 20-5 victory over the Rockies. They have scored 35 runs their past two games. They have scored 60 runs in their last six. It's the most the Phillies have scored in back-to-back games since they scored 35 on July 2-3, 1999, vs. the Chicago Cubs at Veterans Stadium. Check out those box scores here and here.

Here are the highest scoring totals in back-to-back games since that two-game bloodbath against the Cubs in 1999:

35 - May 25-26, 2008, at Astros vs. Rockies
33 - Aug. 24-25, 1999, vs. Padres
31 - June 28-29, 2004, vs. Expos
29 - June 15-16, 2001, vs. Orioles
24 - Aug. 14-15, 2006, vs. Mets
24 - June 9-11, 2004, at White Sox and Twins
24 - Sept. 14-16, 2003, at Pirates and vs. Marlins
23 - July 13-14, 2007, vs. Cardinals
23 - Aug. 19-20, 2006, vs. Nationals
23 - July 19-30, 2006 vs. Marlins
23 - Sept. 16-17, 2005 at Marlins

Phil Sheridan talks about the Phillies' knack for dealing with adversity, and how they seem better equipped to make an October run than in the past.

*

In the Phillies Notebook, the Phillies are at the begiinning of a 10-game homestand. Charlie Manuel thinks it's time to make a move in the division.

Was down at the ballpark for last night's game. What a perfect way to end the holiday weekend! Granted, the Rockies are pretty beat up and missing several key guys, but I'll take it. On a side note, the night was actually not quite perfect at CBP. As has been the case in the past on Dollar Dog Nights, there were lots of displays of drunken and disorderly fans. It seems that they must buy tickets in groups, as there were several sections that had a near constant security and police presence. Not cool.

20-5 is like a football score. Now I just hope we can score runs today, because they have a nasty habit of struggling after an offensive burst. And I'm sorry to hear about the fans.

Just an amazing offensive run they've had over the last week or so! I agree Deb--hope that they don't experience a dry spell. Love they fact that Moyer is now 5-3 and that his last four games the team has scored 11, 10, 12 and 20 runs! To quote Jim Salisbury "If he keeps getting that kind of support, he may pitch until he's 55."

I was at last night's game too, bobby. I agree about dollar dog night. The same thing happens during college nights. Ruins it for those of us who are trying to enjoy the game.

The hot dogs are hot and miss I'd say. Last time I was at DD night, I walked away from the stand with 2 dogs and when I went to put mustard on, I found the rols were hard as rock. Took 'em back and told the guys. You know what they gave me? 2 new rolls. They didn't even replace the dogs. Too funny. Well, speaking of rolls, let's hope the Phils can continue on this offensive roll they are on. In other words, let's hope they don't dog it tonight. OK, enough already.

College nights were so bad last year with the drunken brawls they actually no longer have them, but the Dollar Dog nights have taken over as the unofficial college nights. The last one I attended I was glad to see a lot less beer salesmen in the stands and the common sense to not make the 7th Inning last call for beer that they usually do. Still I had a group of 15 people next to me in my row and we had to get up and down constantly, especially during play, for them to come back in forth one at a time with a beer or a hotdog. If 2 of the 15 knew the final score of the game I would be shocked. Really takes away from the enjoyment of the game especially for my 84 y.o. dad who had to constantly get up and down also.

Anyone else notice Feliz has really come around as of late? On May 17th his average was .232, now up to .271. Not bad. Even if he keeps just this level up, I'll take .271 any day. Plus for this month he is batting .333

About Matt Gelb and Bob Brookover

Bob Brookover and Matt Gelb team up for their third straight season covering the Phillies for the Inquirer and philly.com.

This is Brookover’s second stint writing about the Phillies, having joined the coverage team after seven years as an Eagles beat writer. Brookover was hired by The Inquirer in 2000 as the Phillies beat writer after spending 13 years writing about the team for two suburban newspapers. While on the Eagles beat, Brookover, who had covered just two winning Phillies teams in 15 seasons, saw the Phillies move into a cash-cow new ballpark and begin playing a brand of the game he found unrecognizable. Follow him on Twitter here.

Gelb is in his third season covering the Phillies. He was hired by The Inquirer in August 2009 after graduating from Syracuse University. He has also covered baseball at The Star-Ledger and Cape Cod Times. Born and raised in Bucks County, he attended Central Bucks High School West. Follow him on Twitter here.
