Phils confirm Brody Colvin signing

POSTED: Monday, August 17, 2009, 6:13 PM

Hours before the 11:59pm signing deadline for this year's draft picks, a report from Louisiana's 2theadvocate.com, among other reports from Lousiana, says that the Phillies have agreed to a deal with highly-regarded righthanded pitcher Brody Colvin.  Colvin slipped to the seventh round because of a commitment to play at LSU.   Colvin participated in a workout at Citizens Bank Park this week. A Phillies official could not confirm this for the Inquirer a few minutes ago.

UPDATE 10:06p.m.: The Phillies have confirmed the Colvin signing to the Inquirer.

The most remarkable item regarding this post, and the object that will go missed by many of us, is that Philly10's caps lock key finally came unstuck. Phils won the world series and now this... truly amazing, on the verge of miraculous.

Thursday, and no new posts since Monday for a defending World Champs team that's in first place. Just shut the blog down already, ok?

I really enjoy the Wheels bashing regardless of the real topic. But I must admit that Gary Matthews is easy to listen to and kind of funny. Is "Cadillac time" a Sarge original because this team seems to do a lot of "Cadillacing".

Phila Daily News: "A 2008 investigative report by the Inspector General of the Agriculture Department said that a confidential informant reported that Vick twice threw family pets into the ring with his trained fighters because he and two co-defendants "thought it was funny to watch the pit bulls belonging to [his kennel] injure or kill the other dogs."

Laughingstock organiztion? In the three-and-a-half decades since I became a fan, the Phils have been on the whole one of the best franchises in baseball. They've won the World Series twice and the NL pennant four times. They've won or shared the NL East title nine times. Only one NL team (the Reds) has more World Series championships since '74. And only three NL teams (the Cards, the Braves and the Dodgers) have made the post-season more often. kappadonna and refump ... you should cheer up and quit thinking like fans of those choking-dog Mets ...

I MUST BE HAVING A REAL LONG DREAM. 1ST IN MY DREAM WE WIN A WORLD SERIES. THEN THE NEXT SEASON WE GET THE AL REIGNING CY YOUNG PITCHER FOR BASICALLY CHUMP CHANGE AND THE OTHER TEAM THROWS IN A GOOD RIGHT HANDED BAT TO COME OFF THE BENCH FOR US AS WELL. THEN THE PHILS SOMEHOW DRAFT IN THE 9TH ROUND (HOW DID HE FALL THAT LOW? COLLEGE COMMITTED OR NOT) A 1ST ROUND QUALITY PITCHER. AND THEY SIGN HIM? Sure it must be a dream...has to be...what's next?...Back to back World Series Champs? World Fking Champions Again! I don't want to wake up!

Hey there Mr Selig: in Murph's case he is more of the Potsie Weber type....and ToddPratt, you are on the money.

my sentiments exactly therefump. since when did the phillies go from being a laughingstock organization (for pretty much their entire history) to doing everything right. this was a huge signing. highest pitcher they drafted (they love their outfielders) so to get a guy with 1st round talent that late is awesome. kudos to dave, ruben, and the rest, i'm really proud to be a phillies fan right now. (not so much an eagles fan though)

"Colvin was on campus Monday and went through freshman orientation, Mainieri said, but a last-day signing bonus offer of $900,000 from the Philadelphia Phillies lured him away."

mick314... I am a fan of your comments. Can we please stay on topic and talk about murphy's fonzie jacket? We are so easily distracted.

Hopefully he becomes an "untouchable" when we try and trade for an ACE pitcher in a few years at the trading deadline!!!!
