CLEARWATER, Fla. — The green uniforms brought no better luck for the Phillies and their injury woes.

Third baseman Placido Polanco left Saturday's game in the third inning with an injury to a finger on his left hand. Polanco, on first base after a first-inning single, dove back to the bag on a pickoff attempt and jammed his left hand against the base.

He stayed on the ground for a few minutes and head athletic trainer Scott Sheridan examined him, but Polanco remained in the game only to leave later.

The Phillies said Polanco was being evaluated for an injury to his left fourth finger. Polanco has played only six games this spring as the team attempts to lighten the load on his often-injured body.

Michael Martinez replaced Polanco at third. Martinez was battling an injury of his own, a bruised right elbow, and hadn't played since Tuesday.
