Polanco leads third basemen in voting

WASHINGTON -- The first of many balloting updates for the All-Star Game fan vote are out and Placido Polanco has a sizeable lead at third base.

WASHINGTON -- The first of many balloting updates for the All-Star Game fan vote are out and Placido Polanco has a sizeable lead at third base.

Polanco has 724,724 votes. Second place is Chipper Jones, who has 540,168 votes. The Phillies third baseman has been an All-Star just once in his career, in 2007 when he hit .341 with Detroit.

Chase Utley, who has played all of seven games this season, is third in voting among second basemen. He has 561,585 votes and trails Brandon Phillips (837,778) and Rickie Weeks (562,071).

Jimmy Rollins is second at shorstop but trails Troy Tulowitzki by more than 500,000 votes. Ryan Howard is fourth among first basemen. Carlos Ruiz is fourth among catchers. The top outfielder is Shane Victorino, who is seventh. Raul Ibanez is 13th. Each has more votes than Jayson Werth, who did not rank in the top 15 NL outfielders.
