The Phillies' most exciting pitching prospect since Cole Hamels is on his way to eastern Pennsylvania.
Kyle Drabek, the team's top draft pick in 2006, has been promoted to Double-A Reading. He will pitch for the Reading Phillies Thursday night, when the club hosts Akron at 7:05.
Drabek, a 21-year-old righthander with power stuff, was 4-1 with a 2.48 ERA in 10 games, nine starts, at single A Clearwater. In 61 2/3 innings, he allowed 49 hits and struck out 74.
Drabek is the son of former major league pitcher Doug Drabek, the National League Cy Young Award winner in 1990.

Awesome I might check that out thursday if he starts Adam_Eaton
Good to see the kid maturing both on the field and off. He knows he has unlimited potential with a powerful right arm. Could be a great 1-2 puch with Cole down the road. Do NOT trade him! gulls3012

If the Padres have a brain in their head, this is who they will want for Peavy -- therefore, no Peavy. RichNC
HeavyTC, What team are you a scout for? You are trained in player evaluation? Could you be more specific than "he'll never be half the player his daddy Doug Drabek was"? Before making ignorant comments you might want to check out daddy's 155-134 won/loss record. Russ- The kid is the real deal. When you have Tommy John surgery, then are told to change your pitching style and still be dominant, you have to be good. He is done all that. BTW he has better stuff that his dad. His fastball is clocked around 97 MPH consistently and has a nice curveball (his out pitch), plus a changeup. Not to bad for a 21 year old kid. With Myers future with Phillies in limbo and with the uncertainty about Moyer, it would not surprise me if he makes the rotation next year or is called up during the season. EL Zorro
- He'll be a nice complement to both Hamels and Happ. A good RH power pitcher who can split those two. That could be a nice rotation for a few years. EL Zorro
