Dear Gelb and philly.com: If you're going to have a blog and feature it on the Phillies landing page, you can't go a week without posting anything on it. Makes you look silly, especially when right beside you Murphy is posting as of 11/10. Sure, reporters are allowed to take some time off after the season, but then the newspaper has to make sure somebody's filling in on the blog.

jman...rest assured I was being sarcastic about the money saved on Lopes. When you pluck a .230 hitting, iron-gloved infielder with a weirdly asymmetrical pair of eyes from the Cleveland Stinking Indians' scrap heap, I don't know why it even merits an article, let alone a place for the guy on the 40-man.

This better not mean that Wilson Valdez isn't coming back." ... No, it means Dobbs isn't be coming back. The only reason Dobbs was on the LDS roster was the Phillies were thin at GOOD backup infielders.

The money they saved on Lopes? Lopes was the only member of the coaching staff (including Manuel) who made any measurable difference on this team, by improving their base running. All Manuel did was create a folksy, relaxed atmosphere which in hindsight, probably lulled the players into believing they could "switch it on" at will. As we all saw, the Phillies relaxed their way out of the playoffs for the 2nd straight year. LOPES IS THE ONLY ONE THEY SHOULD HAVE KEPT!

Oh my God, Latinos play baseball! We need to get rid of Ruiz, Valdez, Polanco, Francisco, Contreras, etc. etc. because they're not the right race for scootch. Maybe we should dump Howard, Brown and Rollins just to be safe...

Seriously guys this is a big move and you all need to stop making jokes and see this for the strategic move that it is. Ruben Amaro Jr deserves much praise for having the vision in making this move. I bet he didnt even consult with Gillick, thats how sure he was. The Phils have finally filled the hole at backup 2nd baseman at Reading. Need that depth as the season moves on. I can't believe Comcast Sportsnet didnt carry this live. Who needs Davy Lopes when you have Carlos Rivero.

Look, they need to add some infielders, even if in the minors for now. Seems like all the Phils draft anymore is pitchers and outfielders.

I agree this better not mean Valdez on the way out. I'd rather Valdez stay and trade Rollins while we still could something in return.

This guy is a stud! With the money they saved on Davey Lopes they went out and stole the next Roberto Alomar from Cleveland.
