Phillies Claim Robles

POSTED: Tuesday, April 29, 2008, 2:57 PM

The Phillies are desperate for infield help, so today they claimed Oscar Robles off waivers from the San Diego Padres.

He is headed to triple-A Lehigh Valley.

Robles has hit .260 with five homers and 36 RBIs in parts of three seasons with the Dodgers and Padres. He hit .216 with one homer and 10 RBIs in 13 games this season for triple-A Portland. Robles can play second, third and shortstop, which the Phillies need.

I was wondering where the "desperate for infield help" is coming from, too. OK, Feliz isn't great. But Bruntlett seems to be turning a corner. And Chase is.......well Chase! Seems this guy Robles can't play 1st, so that's not a help. Guess we could put him at 3rd with Dobbs at 1st when needed.

You don't bring up a "hot shot" kid to sit on the bench. The prospects should stay in the Minors and develop their skills while getting 4 AB's per game. Every team has a veteran utility player, the Phillies are no different.

Oscar Robles was working as a parking lot attendant at the Showboat Casino. Who said the Phillies needed middle infield help?

There's the Truth we've all come to know and love!! The conspiracy theories keep on rolling. I'm not sure if Todd touched on the Clemens thing, but Roger should be a spokesman against drugs. I can see the commercial now, " During my playing days I made a bad decision to use steroids. Now because of the steroids my life has come unraveled. If it weren't for steroids my wife wouldn't have known I cheated on her, I could still be playing baseball and this defamation suit wouldn't be hanging over my head. I also would like to thank Sen. George Mitchell and Jose Canseco to ratting me out. I was once a great pitcher and now I'm not even sure the baseball gods will shine on me and elect me into the Hall of Fame. Kids, don't do drugs."

The "hot shot 2nd baseman" you refer to Adrian Cardenas-he's in A-ball. He's at least a year away from being ready for the bigs. Unless he's a September callup he needs to play every day and last I checked we've got some guy named Utley playing second who is doing half-decent. Robles is just a bench guy for the triple a team-he's roster fill, nothing more, nothing less.

So Truth, are the Yankees classless for mishandling A-rod's injury? What happened with J-roll happens to every team now and again, you loser!!

Truth, youn truly are an idiot. Cardenas is barley 20 years old, and plays 2nd, Utleys position. what the heck is the sense to call him up to sit on the bench when he can get everyday at bats commiserate to his experience at Clearwater. Seriously dude, find another team or take a bath with a toaster. Phils have a winning April and you still whine worse than a little girl, cupcake.

Who cares, they released a worse player, and signed him, whats the big deal? I would love to see a young gun come up and take Myers spot if he is having arm trouble. All those posts about Myers taking roids were rediculous! He drinks beer and has a temper, like half of America!! There are millions of guys that slap/punch women around, and I highly doubt many are on roids! GET REAL

I guess you're right Norma, maybe I should stick to baseball analysis and leave the organizational stuff alone.

Not sure if it is anything to read into but the Phils don't have Myers listed as the starting pitcher for Saturdays game against the Giants. It is listed as TBD right now. Zo, any word on this or did the phils just not fill it in yet. Curious if Myers is getting skipped b/c of the velocity issue.

How long until we re-acquire Jose Mesa or Aaron Fultz?

Retread! Funny thing is YOU guys don't see this for what it is. If they bring up the hot shot 2nd baseman and shuffle the guys they have accordingly in case of injury he gets a year of service time. P.G. and the boys would rather die first..... Are you starting to understand?

The Phils MUST be desperate if they claimed a guy who is 31 years old, was playing in Mexico 2 years ago and as Tommy Lasorda would say "couldn't hit water if he fell out of a *** boat". At least he'll fit in with the Iron Pigs.

How exciting! We've added a terrible player to our organization! What, we couldn't land Mario Mendoza?
