Phillies sign Heilman

The Phillies have acquired a former Met, but it's not Carlos Beltran.

Righthander Aaron Heilman signed a minor-league deal with the Phillies and will report in the coming days to triple-A Lehigh Valley. Heilman was recently released by the Arizona Diamondbacks after posting a 6.88 ERA in 32 games. The 32-year-old reliever did strike out 33 in 35 1/3 innings but allowed 48 hits.

Phillies fans will remember him for his putrid performances against them while with New York. In his career, Heilman has a 6.61 ERA in 40 appearances vs. the Phillies.

For now, he adds depth at Lehigh Valley. Heilman has pitched nine seasons in the majors with three different clubs. He's a former college teammate of Brad Lidge's at Notre Dame.

Lose Grilli, gain Heilman....not a very good tradeoff.

one of the worst pitchers I have ever seen. The Phillies used to KILL him as a Met. He will never wear a Phillies uniform. Just there to fill the spot of Grilli.

You have to like Heilmans's stuff. However, I doubt anyone will figure out how to help him with his location. Pirates just signed Jason Grilli off the Lehigh Valley roster. Thank God we did not cut Baez and bring up Grilli and his sub two ERA.
