Phillies reveal 2013 schedule

POSTED: Wednesday, September 12, 2012, 2:27 PM

With a suddenly renewed interest in this season, the Phillies released their schedule for next season before Wednesday's series finale against the Miami Marlins.

The season opens April 1 in Atlanta with the most unique home opener in team history following four days later when the Phillies begin an interleague series against the Kansas City Royals.

The Phillies will also play a home-and-home interleague series against the Boston Red Sox with two games at Fenway Park May 27 and 28 followed by two games at Citizens Bank Park May 29 and 30. They will host a two-game interleague series with the Cleveland Indians May 14-15 after playing in Cleveland April 30 and May 1. The Phillies' other home interleague series will be against the Chicago White Sox from July 12-14.

Road interleague series other than Boston and Cleveland will take the Phillies to Minnesota June 11-13 and Detroit July 26-28.

The Phillies will play 15 of their first 19 September games at home next season before closing the year with a six-game road trip to Miami and Atlanta.

The complete schedule is at the bottom of this post.

Ruf still waiting. With the Phillies definitely now a part of the wild-card race, manager Charlie Manuel was asked if it will be more difficult to work double-A Reading home run king Darin Ruf into the starting lineup for a game.

"Yeah, definitely," Manuel said. "At the same time, over in Houston I'll look and see who's pitching and I might try to get him in a game. I will try to get him in a game if I think it's OK. I'm definitely not scared to play him."

Manuel said he considered pinch-hitting Ruf with the bases loaded Tuesday night against Miami.

"I look at that sometimes and think, 'Ah, that ain't good,' " Manuel said. "Then I think, 'I would want to hit there. What the hell, I ain't got nothing to lose.' I'd want to go up there and get my cuts in."

It's quite possible the first time we see Ruf will be as a pinch-hitter against a lefty when Manuel is looking for a long ball.

"Yeah, there comes a time when you look and say, 'We need a double or a home run,' " Manuel said. "The kid just hit 40 (actually 39) altogether counting the playoffs. I still think he's got 41 in him."

Yea, Wiggy is such a stud with the bat and in the field how can you get Ruf into the lineup?

They have Michael Martinez in the lineup and he is worrying about playing Ruf because the games "count"? If .200 is the Mendoza line then .100 is the Martinez line.

Seeing how the Astros are a AAA team, this should be the perfect team for Ruf to see some action against. He hits his first ML homer sometime within the next four games.

I doubt we will see Martinez next year but the way our pitching staff is going now I believe we need to have the best defense we can field. Our bull pen suddenly is top notch-hate to blow a game on an error.

Look he was considering pinch-hitting Ruf. What more do you want. Charlie will never think outside the box. Probable reason for Wigington over Ruf in LF is Ruf's inexperience in outfield. Then again Wigington not an outfielder and Ruf might run into one. If Charlie's gone after season it would make 2012 troubles easier to take. Charlies lamenting about overbalanced lineup. This was obvious from day one. Masde worse by loosing Victorino. Shane was having poor year but 300 hitter against lefthanders. Phills may have gotten real good one for Shane in pitcher Martin. Went to bed last night thinking Cards would win.
