Phillies need a starting pitcher for Tuesday

MIAMI — Long before Saturday's game, Tyler Cloyd spent five minutes playing catch at an empty Marlins Park with pitching coach Rich Dubee. It was enough time to determine Cloyd has thrown his final pitch of a whirlwind 2012.

He has logged 200 innings this season, 54 more than 2011, and his arm is tired.

That leaves the Phillies scrambling for a Tuesday starter. There is no obvious answer, Dubee said. He planned to discuss options with GM Ruben Amaro Jr.

"It depends on who is available," Dubee said.

One would be reliever B.J. Rosenberg, who made six starts at triple-A, and has recently been stretched out as a long man. But if the Phillies could need him before Tuesday.

Basically, the end of the season cannot come soon enough.

"Maybe it'll be a position player," Dubee quipped.

See...Should have kept Wilson Valdez. I know he's a reliever but he's a gamer with a high motor with good muscle memory.

Agreed Outta. Wilson Valdez would be warming up right now to give Cholly a decent 5 innings.

The Phillies needed a starting pitcher tonight. But thank God they have Rich Dubee there with the quips. Had the Phyils brought up Jonathan Pettitbone to help their able bullpen, he would have been the obvious choice. I believe he has to be protected on the 40-man off season roster either way. If not, scratch that idea and go with Charlie's favorite, a rotisserie of bullpen arms.

should just forfeit the rest of season so nobody else can get injured -- and Lee sure doesn't need another 2-1 loss for morons in Philly to blog about what a 'disappointment' he's been (note: his season stats are equivalent to Hamels and are much better than many 16 and 17 game winners)

So Cloyd is the latest to fall victim of Dubeeitis> and if they need a position player to pitch why not M&M .it never gets old hearing about his versatility he equally inept from both sides of the plate . hit s like a pitcher .........no stop the M&M madness please did they really pinch hit him tonite to make a mockery of an attempt to bunt especial since the farce of his bunting skill was still fresh from the night before .Who ever hes has pictures of can t we just give him money to go away please
