The Phillies will need Cole Hamels to pitch deep into Monday's home opener.

Antonio Bastardo and Mike Stutes are unavailable for action, pitching coach Rich Dubee said. Kyle Kendrick has also pitched on consecutive days. And Chad Qualls said he hopes to be in the bullpen, but a mysterious heel injury still required a pregame doctor's examination.

Qualls was sidelined Sunday with a sore right heel. He was more optimistic Monday before his doctor's appointment.

"I do feel better and hopefully they will let me go," Qualls said.

He was still unsure of the nature of the injury.

"I really don’t know what it was," Qualls said. "It was kind of weird what happened, but I will say it’s getting better."

That leaves Jonathan Papelbon, Joe Savery and David Herndon in the bullpen Monday.
