New Phillies general manager Matt Klentak made his second waiver claim of the month on Friday, taking a chance on righthanded reliever A.J. Achter from the Minnesota Twins.
Achter, 27, is a 6-foot-5 righthander who spent most of last season in triple A. He posted a 2.62 ERA in 48 minor-league innings but a 6.75 ERA in 13 1/3 innings with the major-league club. He was a 46th-round draft pick of the Twins in 2010 out of Michigan State.
The Phillies previously claimed righthanded reliever Dan Otero off waivers from the Oakland Athletics.
