Phillies acquire O'Sullivan to complete Blanton trade
Matt Gelb, Inquirer Staff Writer
MILWAUKEE — The Phillies received single-A righthander Ryan O'Sullivan from Los Angeles as the player to be named later to complete a trade for Joe Blanton.
O'Sullivan, 21, was a fourth-round draft pick of the Dodgers in 2011. He began the season as a starter but transitioned to a relief role upon being promoted to high single-A Rancho Cucamonga. While there, he posted a 3.57 ERA in 14 games with 12 strikeouts and eight walks in 17 2/3 innings. He has only 60 strikeouts in 97 career professional innings.
Baseball America ranked O'Sullivan as Los Angeles' 23rd-best prospect before the 2012 season.
He could not be included in the deal until Thursday because he was drafted last summer. Major League Baseball rules stipulate a player cannot be dealt less than a year after being drafted.

warbiscuit = Well Said and Amen. Al n SD- Actually, Al, the blithering bizkit "said" it very poorly. He has the need for a remedial English writing skills class--at the least!
GOOD GRIEF!
(Wasn't going to comment, here, but couldn't let the absurdity of your response go without one.) BEMiller
who lets this doofus warbiscuit keep commenting? His post are annoying and irrelevant!!!!!
guy84- But, his continual, if not continuous, posts prove to the blithering bizkit of bellicosity that he actually exists!
Once he's proved to himself he exists, everything else is irrelevant!
GOOD GRIEF! BEMiller
Jewish guy? Jim M.
Let's hope he gets called up in September so The Dubes can properly evaluate his talent. rockinginthefreeworld
Well, if we would have kept Blanton it was either resigning at around the same money he made for a few more years, offer him a $12 million guarantee contract to get a prospect or just let him walk with no compensation. No way you offer him a $12 mil, because nobody will sign him and risk losing a potential fist round pick. Then you get stuck with him at $12 mil for a year. So, the best was to trade him and get something, which the team did. EL Zorro
"Baseball America ranked O'Sullivan as Los Angeles' 23rd-best prospect before the 2012 season."
I literally burst out laughing when I read this sentence. Ruben Smug Jr. cannot be any more of a screwup. If you followed some of the other deadline trades involving players of Blanton's caliber (3rd/4th starter with better 2nd half numbers) you would see how pathetic of a return this is for him. astroqueen0
Maybe I shouldn't rush to judgement with O'Sullivan. Maybe Dubee and Cholly have a plan to have Schwimer take O'Sullivan "under his wing" and teach him everything he knows (ha!). Al n SD

Not a fan of "Get Down", drbob1? And "Alone Again (Naturally)" might be the most depressing #1 hit ever. SweetsErik

Leave the guy alone. If he needs to blog 6-8 times a day he either needs a life or there's something wrong. I haven't read one of his blogs for 6-7 months. Then again before I catch his name I will read his post and midway thru the sentance I know who it is. don whitman
