Phillies-Marlins Saturday game postponed

POSTED: Saturday, August 27, 2011, 1:28 PM

Who would you rather see as the Phillies' fourth starter in the playoffs?
Roy Oswalt
Vance Worley

The Phillies-Marlins game, scheduled for Saturday afternoon at Citizens Bank Park, was postponed due to Hurricane Irene. The Phillies had hoped to start the game on time and get through it, but the tarp never came off the field as the storm grew worse in the early afternoon.

The two teams will play a doubleheader on Sept. 15, which was previously a day off for the Phillies.

The Phillies have 33 games remaining, and not counting Sunday, which is now an off day due to the storm, they have 31 days in which to play those games.

They should've postponed the game the day before or early in the AM. Can't risk having thousands of fans in the stands with SEPTA shutdown when severe weather arrives. I agree that whoever showed up for this game is a moron.

While I did not have tickets to the game, I really feel for those fans who made the trek to CBP. This hurricane was no secret. I mean, duh, the news has been filled with nothing else for 2 days. Laugh at me if you want, but there is no reason that a morning game--11AM start couldn't have been scheduled. It's a Saturday and a 1 PM versus an 11 AM start, which would have guarranteed that the game got in, would have been smart. Now, they have 2 make-up dates with only one visit left by the "Fish" in September. Is an 11 AM start that stupid, given the situation?

If I read my schedule accurately, the season ends in Atlanta on Sept.
    28. There are still two days that week- Thurs and Friday, to play any necessary make up or tie breaking games. Hate to see the Phils cram in two doubleheaders, less than a week apart from each other, on Sept. 15 vs the Fish and then Sept. 20 vs the Gnats.

There are a lot of things the Phillies do correct. This was not one of them. They blew this weekend's scheduling big time.

Phils in first, fans in last.
Remember, too, when the Sunday game was moved to Saturday, the 7:30 was said to still be on.
It was killing them they stood to lose tow games.
Didn't even move the time up on the second game, because they couldn't charge.
    Whining vs legitimate complaint?
I vote legitimate complaint and disgrace for the Phils.
    When is fan appreciation night?

@halincoh if you paid attention to the media reports then you would know that the phillies tried to play a doubleheader on friday but the marlins had to agree to play a doubleheader and they refused. The marlins players didn't want to. So before you blame the phillies you should get your stories straight!

Remember back at Connie Mack you paid to get in and saw to full games for the price of one. Ah the good ol days when fans were more important than money.

Money always came first. The teams just never thought they could get away with it, and back then, they probably couldn't.
I remember being at an Eagle games in 10 degrees, and the game was at a stand still. Time out was up, so let's go, what's the holdup?
Then we saw the guy with the William Penn hat.
The refs couldn't start the clock, until the commercials were over, and he signaled it by putting his hat on.
Years later you have night games in January.

We long ago, as a culture, sacrificed socially coherent planning, to just do whatever is most profitable. Social consequences be damned as long as supply and demand merge in that honeypot of max profit. So why complain now. Just business as usual in $aMErica. The planners saw a slow moving storm but didn't consider the size of it which has caused areas to get soaking rains and wind 24 hours before the eye wall passes by.

Could not agree with this more. Somewhere about the early 1980's, the values of Jesus Christ were supplanted by the values of Ayn Rand in Americans' policies, choices, and souls.

Hey Reading is playing two right now up the road. Won the first on 3 Mitchell RBIs and there is no score in the bottom of the third in the second game as the R-Phils are fighting for a playoff spot.
