Phillies-Marlins Saturday game postponed
Gary Potosky
The Phillies-Marlins game, scheduled for Saturday afternoon at Citizens Bank Park, was postponed due to Hurricane Irene. The Phillies had hoped to start the game on time and get through it, but the tarp never came off the field as the storm grew worse in the early afternoon.
The two teams will play a doubleheader on Sept. 15, which was previously a day off for the Phillies.
The Phillies have 33 games remaining, and not counting Sunday, which is now an off day due to the storm, they have 31 days in which to play those games.

WOW - What a PR nightmare -waiting waiting and waiting, after fans arrive call game before it starts.. Also just saw on CBSPhilly 3 that some of the kids that came early got the Phillies Book Bag give-away; then they stopped doing that and most kids that came did not get the give-away... One Big Boo to Phillies front-office! M60tanker
Should have made the call as soon as they saw how far north the front edge was. Good call overall though. They have a huge payroll but I'm happy to be a Phils fan when they make a call concerning the fans. jburd641
In the old days, they used to play real doubleheaders on Sunday afternoons, even some twi-nighters on Fridays. If they played a few of those nowadays, there would be more wiggle room in the schedule. Heaven forbid that we should be able to enjoy two games for the price of one! thefullmonty- So true!
bearsfriend - BINGO! Ladies and gentlemen, I do believe we have a winner. If all teams played 1 true doubleheader a month it would free up 6-7 days in the schedule. Even if they were the dreaded day/night type.
Whoever has the official authority (MLB?) for calling games blew this one. Bad move on the kids, too. MLB needs to build in a few extra open days in late August & September for postponed games. verve
Good going Phillies front office. You got the fans to pay for parking, eat and drink your overpriced concessions, when all along you knew full well the game had no chance of being completed.. Young Tom Young Tom
The Phillies owe the fans big time for jerking them around through this bungled fiasco hurricane fiasco. The Phillies must not get cable or the internet. The Phils brass was more focused on their sell out streak and while they forgot about the fans that make the streak happen. Even the stinkin' Mets were smart enough to postpone their game for Saturday and Sunday well in advance of Irene. I hope the fans were returned the parking money for risking their lives for a game that was never going to get played. shakinbake
No. They should have played two on Friday and never attemped a game on Saturday. They had the same access to weather reports that every other Tom , Dick, and Harry had. Why did they think they could play on Saturday at all? The double header should have been scheduled for Friday based on the information at the time. halincoh- I guess they tried their best to get this game in. It beats trying to play 33 games in 31 days and burning out the players going into the playoffs.
- Agree with halincoh. No reason they couldn't have played 2 on Friday. Especially since both Phils and Marlins were off Thursday. Then they would have only had 1 to make up.
blame the management for not canceling sooner. but blame the fans who did show up for being morons. tockeyhockey
Wow, now if they end the season in a tie with the Braves, they'll have to play at least one game against the Fish to determine their fate! sonnybuoy01
Quit complaining whiners... phillyinATL
Phils should have known early this AM this game couldn't be played but c'mon there were maybe a few hundred die-hards in the stadium and no one is out their parking if they come back for the makeup. However, if the Phils cheated some kids out of book bags they started handing out, well shame on them. PhillySubsMac
