Wow the one day I logged on once in the morning and didn't have a chance to re-log. Wohat a wild and crazy day. Lets see glad to see Jenkins go and Stairs stay. park is the obvious right choice for the fifth spot. Use him up early and see if he can hold on. Myers is a head case but he deserves the start. I just hope he doesn't end up with he Iron Pigs by June. Great job Martino---------
Truth ... Looks like you'll have a lot to brag about with Howard this year. Whats different about him this spring is he is taking what they give him and hitting it to all fields. As long as he stays away from the Joe Morgan phylosophy of pulling everything he will win the NL MVP.
I'm glad that the possibility of Sheffield coming to Philly seems to be fairly remote. Phew!? Myers seemed like the obvious choice for opening day since he's next in the rotation and chosing Blanton, a good choice, however it would've made the rotation a bit more topsy-turvy.
Agreed...while Sheffield, the player, at this point in his career, seems to fit their needs (right-handed power bat off the bench who can play maybe 10 games in the field all year), Sheffield, the person, is the worst idea in the world for that locker room. Interesting tidbit, I read a rumor that the Phillies are also showing interest in Andruw Jones. Not sure how I feel about that one either, but is makes more sense than Sheff. Maybe the Phillies think Charlie can fix whatever has gone wrong with Andruw's swing (my two cents: what is wrong with Andruw's swing is the 40-50 extra pounds he is carrying compared to 3-4 years ago).
Also, this is going to be one whacky year. We haven't even reached Opening Day, and I am already agreeing far too much with Truth. :) I hope they don't put Happ in the bullpen...I would prefer (although Happ wouldn't like it much) to have him continue to start in AAA so that he is sufficiently stretched out when they need him to fill in. No matter where they put him, he is going to be starting for the Phils sometime this season.
Someone on Murph's blog mentioned Wily Mo Pena (love that name!) as a possible bench option. Hadn't heard his name batted (no pun intended) about as a possibility.
I still prefer Josh Willingham. I would like to see them try to get him from the Nats, for maybe Kyle Kendrick, or perhaps a lower level prospect with a little more potential upside. Certainly not a quality prospect. But the Nats have a glut of outfielders they are trying to rectify, and supposedly Willingham and Kearns are both available in trade, and I think Willingham is perfect for what the Phils need.
