No changes in Phillies lineup for Game 5

POSTED: Friday, October 7, 2011, 4:01 PM

True to his word, Charlie Manuel is sticking with the lineup that has brought the Phillies to a decisive Game 5.

Manuel said Thursday he would think about changes, but then made it clear a move was unlikely.

"When you sit there and you're not getting too many hits and you look and you've got four or five guys 0 for 4, how much can I move them in the order?" Manuel said.

So with the season on the line, his starting nine:

1. Jimmy Rollins 6
2. Chase Utley 4
3. Hunter Pence 9
4. Ryan Howard 3
5. Shane Victorino 8
6. Raul Ibanez 7
7. Placido Polanco 5
8. Carlos Ruiz 2
9. Roy Halladay 1

Meanwhile, Tony La Russa has made a few alterations to his lineup. Skip Schumaker is in center field, meaning Jon Jay is out of the lineup for the first time this series. And Nick Punto makes his first start at second base.

1. Rafael Furcal 6
2. Skip Schumaker 8
3. Albert Pujols 3
4. Lance Berkman 9
5. Matt Holliday 7
6. Yadier Molina 2
7. David Freese 5
8. Nick Punto 4
9. Chris Carpenter 1

Punto is 4 for 14 and Schumaker is 4 for 11 against Halladay in their careers and that's why they start.

Doc needs to be great, because he will be lucky to get a run or two of support.

Should have changed the lineup back with Pence 5th to get Howard better looks.
So what with Ut/how back to back lefties, take carp out, good.
    Stagnant, and stubborn, a mistake

Glad Charlie had confidence in that lineup. that was an Andy Reid-like insanity of doing the same thing over and over expecting different results. Don't wna tto hurt Polly's feelings by sitting him down. Or Raul's by playing Mayberry against a RHP. Oh no, let's stay the course. My head hurts.

Failure. Keep running useless Polly and useless Ibanez out there.
