A news flash for all of you out there interested in seeing big league talent at Double-A ticket prices: Brett Myers will start game one of a doubleheader in Reading tonight at 6:30.   He could throw as many as 50 pitches, a key test of his durability as the Phils decide when to bring him back.  It stands to reason that Myers could return sometime next week if all goes well.

Our Jim Salisbury is out there tonight, and we'll keep you updated.

It will be nice to have Myers in our back pocket if Lidge falters, although he looked pretty good last night. We've got options.

He is pitching in Reading, where he met his wife when his wife was a ballgirl and he was a pitcher. His wife went to nearby Oley Valley HS, about 20 minutes from Reading. I doubt she will stay in florida, cause this is the county she grew up in. Regardless, I am looking forward to seeing Myers pitch in about an hour.

The Brett Myers wife beating thing is not funny. Do you have any idea how much damage he can do with that huge World Series ring on his hand?

About Matt Gelb and Bob Brookover

Bob Brookover and Matt Gelb team up for their third straight season covering the Phillies for the Inquirer and philly.com.

This is Brookover’s second stint writing about the Phillies, having joined the coverage team after seven years as an Eagles beat writer. Brookover was hired by The Inquirer in 2000 as the Phillies beat writer after spending 13 years writing about the team for two suburban newspapers. While on the Eagles beat, Brookover, who had covered just two winning Phillies teams in 15 seasons, saw the Phillies move into a cash-cow new ballpark and begin playing a brand of the game he found unrecognizable. Gelb is in his third season covering the Phillies. He was hired by The Inquirer in August 2009 after graduating from Syracuse University. He has also covered baseball at The Star-Ledger and Cape Cod Times. Born and raised in Bucks County, he attended Central Bucks High School West. Follow him on Twitter here.
