Just heard that Brett Myers' scheduled first rehab start tonight was cancelled because the pitcher was struck in the eye by a ball while playing catch with his four-year-old son Kolt.  That's all we know right now, but we're expecting more infor from Ruben Amaro today.

No need to rush him the rosters do not expand for 17 more days.

Dull, if he's healthy before then, then why not bring him up? We don't have to wait for rosters to expand if he pitches well in his rehab starts and is available beforehand. I'd much rather him up here than Walker right now, so I wouldn't lose any sleep having to DFA Walker to activate Myers before Sept. 1st.

I'm here CCP, just to suggest that Brett buy the kid a puppy, and himself a catcher's mask

The kid always liked Mommy better, and her training finally paid off.

Perhaps Myers hit himself in the eye with the ball. That would definitely be a setback.

Walker has pitched pretty well lately. I'd cut Moyer before I'd cut Walker. He doesn't have a role now. Or at least find some reason to put Moyer on the DL until the rosters expand. They can always say that he has a "tired arm".

About Matt Gelb and Bob Brookover

Bob Brookover and Matt Gelb team up for their third straight season covering the Phillies for the Inquirer and philly.com.

This is Brookover’s second stint writing about the Phillies, having joined the coverage team after seven years as an Eagles beat writer. Brookover was hired by The Inquirer in 2000 as the Phillies beat writer after spending 13 years writing about the team for two suburban newspapers. While on the Eagles beat, Brookover, who had covered just two winning Phillies teams in 15 seasons, saw the Phillies move into a cash-cow new ballpark and begin playing a brand of the game he found unrecognizable. Gelb is in his third season covering the Phillies. He was hired by The Inquirer in August 2009 after graduating from Syracuse University. He has also covered baseball at The Star-Ledger and Cape Cod Times. Born and raised in Bucks County, he attended Central Bucks High School West. Follow him on Twitter here.
