Sources: Myers, Kendrick off the NLCS roster; Bruntlett, Park on; Pedro definite for Game 2
Pedro Martinez will start Game 2 of the National League Championship Series, according to team sources.
Martinez, who has not pitched since Sept. 30 and has not lasted more than three innings since Sept. 13, threw a simulated game Tuesday.
“He’s did enough work that I’m confident sending him out,” manager Charlie Manuel said before the decision was revealed. “I think he is capable of throwing anywhere from 75-90 pitches, maybe 95, maybe even 100. But I think that gets us into the sixth inning or the seventh, and I think that where we’re at with out pitching and everything, that would work…he threw a simulated game yesterday, and what I saw, I liked his stuff.”
Joe Blanton was another candidate to start Game 2 , but Manuel said that Blanton and J.A. Happ would spend the “first few games” in the bullpen. Lee pitched on Monday, and would not be on full rest until Sunday’s Game 3.
“I definitely look at Joe Blanton as a starter,” the manager said. “(But) he is the guy who can really set our bullpen up. In front of those (Ryan Madson and Brad Lidge), he gives me some leverage in the back… he is the guy who can mentally go get ‘em, and the grit and the desire and whatever you want to say.
Blanton was not yet sure what his role in the series would be. “I have no idea,” he said. “I’ll do whatever they want me to do.”
The Los Angeles Dodgers said yesterday that their playoff rotation would consist of Clayton Kershaw today, Vicente Padilla tomorrow, Huroki Kuroda on Sunday and Randy Wolf on Monday.

Also according to team sources, righthander Chan Ho Park and utilityman Eric Bruntlett were added to the NLCS roster, and righthanders Brett Myers and Kyle Kendrick were not.
Park (hamstring) threw three bullpen sessions in Clearwater, Fla. in the past week, and said yesterday that he was ready to pitch.
“Feels good,” he said. “Yeah, I’m ready. Really ready.”
“I think health-wise, he’s there,” said general manager Ruben Amaro Jr.
Myers never appeared to recover from a muscle strain in his upper back suffered in September. He also underwent hip surgery in June.
Bruntlett gives the team another option for late-inning defense and pinch-running.

Unless someone is hurt, Myers has thrown his last pitch as a Phillie. For the amount of capital expended on Myers, and the PR problem that he has represented, including his lie about his last drinking incident involving Kim, again, I think the Phillies brass had had their fill of Brett. I wish him well, and hope he spends his World Series victory share wisely, because he is going to have to really rehab to be on the radar as an attractive free agent, maybe as a closer for some team that needs one. I'll never forget what he did for us in the postseason last year with his hitting and his pitching. He really came through and did well, and joins now with Pat Burrell as Phillies Champions who move along, but bleed Phillies red no matter where they wind up playing. laser5

GO PHILLIES, ALL THE WAY. Phillies08
himills--It's no that Manuel doesn't belive in Happ, but because Scott Eyre is pitching with an elbow injury and they have the rookie Bastardo down there, they need a proven LH pitcher that can come in, if necessary, and pitch to the Dodger's LHs--Happ proved last year and early this year that he can pitch out of the pen. If they'd had a healthy Eyre and Romero, there'd be no question that Happ would start. bobbyuk
Cole Hamels could pitch 8 great innings in Game One and if Lidge blows another save at Dodger Stadium (he's already blown two there this season) the series is over. Putting Bruntlett on the roster is ridiculous unless you're looking for a strikeout in a key pinch hit situation. Gnip Gnop
I think we all need to trust Charlie at this point...besides, they're on a mission from God! CMc62480
NoSuperbowl, are you on something? I agree Rollins has struggled, but those 9th inning rallies were all him. And Lidge is the only closer in the playoffs that has made a save. You need a closer, man, come on! dscott
what about Happ? scooterj
hey NoSuperbowlThisYearAgain, "should of...?" it's "should have," nitwit. scooterj- Man, Myers must be a barrel of laughs tonite. If Park really is healthy, that's a big plus for the Phils. Would add some drama too, having been tossing for the Dodgers against the Phils last year. Nobody can say what the right move is now as far as starters. The best post so far is the one that says "Trust Charlie." I say somebody should climb the hills out there and put up a giant 'C' in front of that stupid sign tomorrow night: "CHOLLYWOOD". GO PHILS!!!! bobby
Who is Bruntlett going to replace for late-inning defense and is Bruntlett really a smart base runner? Gnip Gnop
