Jamie Moyer is in Thomas Jefferson University hospital with a blood infection, according to Phillies general manager Ruben Amaro Jr.

Moyer had surgery last Friday to repair three torn tendons in his groin and lower abdomen.

“He is doing fine,” Amaro said. “He has Some type of blood infection and will likely stay one more night. Getting the fever down and taking antibiotics. Not sure how he got it."

No further information is immediately available.

Get well soon, Jamie. Classy guy who'll always be a hero in this town. Well, not THIS town (live in LA), but Philadelphia.

Let me tell you how Ruben. He was operated on. That surgery is not intra-abdominal. It's done in the body wall. They may have used a mesh. It's possible it's a staph or strep infection in the surgical site.

It's gonna be like the end of Major League II when the old coach is in the hospital listening to the playoffs on the radio. "I love this British S**t, I may move to England!" Win it for Jamie!

If I was Ruben, I would get some of that good blood and spread it around for his entire tenure as GM. It does not get any better than Jamie Moyer.

Yeah, those hospitals are great places for getting infections. A disgrace, if you ask me. Studies have shown doctors are resistant to necessary hygiene. Anyway, best wishes to Jamie. May he survive the doctors and thrive. I'd love to see him in place of sourpuss Dubee.

Get well soon Jamie. I wish you were on the bench right now. I had surgery in Jeff. It's a nice clean place. It could have happened to anyone. Unfortunately, it happened to a nice guy!

About Matt Gelb and Bob Brookover

Bob Brookover and Matt Gelb team up for their third straight season covering the Phillies for the Inquirer and philly.com.

This is Brookover’s second stint writing about the Phillies, having joined the coverage team after seven years as an Eagles beat writer. Brookover was hired by The Inquirer in 2000 as the Phillies beat writer after spending 13 years writing about the team for two suburban newspapers. While on the Eagles beat, Brookover, who had covered just two winning Phillies teams in 15 seasons, saw the Phillies move into a cash-cow new ballpark and begin playing a brand of the game he found unrecognizable. Gelb is in his third season covering the Phillies. He was hired by The Inquirer in August 2009 after graduating from Syracuse University. He has also covered baseball at The Star-Ledger and Cape Cod Times. Born and raised in Bucks County, he attended Central Bucks High School West. Follow him on Twitter here.
