Moyer Is Finally Here
It has been 22 years in the majors, but Jamie Moyer finally made his first trip to the World Series.
Moyer Is Finally Here
Todd Zolecki
Jamie Moyer has been in baseball since 1986, but it took him until 2008 to finally reach the World Series.
"I really believe that, going into this postseason, we had a club that really had that sour taste in its mouth from last year," Moyer said. "It was more than just getting to the playoffs. It was getting deep into the playoffs, and we've been fortunate enough to get that far this year. We still have work to do, but I'm really proud of this group of guys." Moyer was clutching a bottle of Moet et Chandon champagne, a considerably more expensive bubbly than the kind used in the division-clinching and division series celebrations. "The further you go," Moyer said, "I guess the better the champagne." And it tastes sweeter, right? "Oh, yes it does."

Those freakin' Rays couldn't hold onto a 7-0 lead last night. So the ALCS heads back to Tampa Bay for Game 6 tomorrow night. I thought a Rays clinch would have been best for the Phillies because both teams would have had a considerable layoff before the World Series. The layoff hurt the Rockies in 2007 and Tigers in 2006, so you have to wonder how the Phillies can guard against that. The Phillies work out today and tomorrow. They have off Sunday and plan to fly to Boston or Tampa on Monday and work out Monday night and Tuesday before Game 1 of the World Series on Wednesday.
Terry Francona and Joe Maddon have some Phillies connections.

Want World Series tickets? They'll cost you.

How did the Phillies get here anyway?

The Phillies or the debate? Oh, and thank God there won't be a Phillies cap on William Penn's head.
RAS. Boston will not win. THis is the year of "We want to P*ss off the networks" Tampa and Phila in the series. AS for Myers, He will pitch game 3 and hopefully win at home, but I also pick Phillies in 5. They win it at home and the whole city goes crazy! (and I have to watch it on you tube---again) jeff gross- Zo, the Rockies had a huge layoff after sweeping the Phillies and came back to beat the D-Backs, right? I think it can work both ways. After reading Conlin's article today, I am 100% convinced that he and Truth are the same person. He leaves Utley out of his post season "all-stars" but includes Duncan and Morandini (who platooned together in '93), and includes Howard at first base above Pete Rose. Gary Varsho- Jeff: Myers pitching Game 3? Did I miss something? Got to be Hamels/Myers/Moyer/Blanton, right? I think we could be looking at a split in Tampa, bringing the Phils back home 1-1. Then you have Moyer/Blanton/Hamels in games 3-4-5. It woudl be so incredible to be looking at a Game 5 clincher with Cole pitching at home. That's a tall order. Probably more likely to see a Game 6 in Tampa with Myers picthing to win it all (which would allow him to make up for a Game 2 loss?). I'm going to lay off the predictions, as I'm WAY to biased at this stage. Let's just enjoy the ride and see who the heroes will be. GO PHILS!!! bobby
Conlin lost what little he ever had. Moyer should pitch game 4. Hamels. Myers. Blanton. Moyer. I'm not wild about that, cuz I have Game 4 tix. Roster move: You put Marson on the bench. DH Coste vs. the lefties. Marson should never be used. He's a safety net, that's all. Plus, can you tell me, in a real jam, Marson is going to be worse than Taguchi? It's a wash. He might surprise everyone. Joe in Haddonfield
Conlin omitted Utley...seems reasonable. However, while he was at it he should have added, then, Ramon aviles and Luis Aguayo. Actually, if you look back at the stats of the 1980 team, it is interesting how they compare with this year's Phillies team. I think the starting pitching was certainly better in 1980 but offensively it is not comparison. However, I realize it is not fair to compare the two different eras It is still interesting, though. MrPhillie
Joe in Haddonfield - I had the same thought about putting Marson on the roster in place of Taguchi - so Coste can be the DH against lefties and have Marson for emergency purposes only. I doubt they will do it though, but its a good idea. Gary Varsho
Loved Jamie's on-field interview. He was so emotional. Can't imagine how it must feel to be in the game for 20+ years, and finally get to the *big show*! I was so happy for him! Read an on-line article today about Chase. His family was at game 5, and his mom said she started crying at the last out. Got me to thinking.....I'm sure most Phillies fanily's were at the game. How awesome for all of them to witness such a milestone in their sons' careers! Norma- Did anyone else besides me notice that TBS color guy Ron Darling has the EXACT SAME VOICE as actor James Woods? I actually tried to Google how long Woods (who is a big sports fan) has been on the TBS broadcast team this morning. RAS
- Quote from Cole Hamels on why his parents were not at the clinching game in LA, but stayed home in San Diego: "I worked so hard to get to this game, I wanted the least distractions I could have... I can see my family in the off-season." Maybe this guy isn't as 'soft' as we all thought! Worked like a charm, Cole. Keep the family home for the Series! bobby
- RAS: Funny, I have been saying for years that actor James Woods sounds just like TBS color guy Ron Darling. LOL bobby
I think we should put a Rays/Boston jersey on William Penn. Maybe the will reverse the curse. Beef69
I don't think the layoff will hurt the Phils much - its not like our big bats have been on fire this offseason. The rest can only help the pitching, while hopefully the days off will get guys like Chase/Rollins/Howard/Burrell back in the groove. This team hasn't been hitting on all cylinders offensively, yet has still made it to the WS - imagine what we can do with a productive front of the order... tjc
Are there any opinions on who the Phillies would fare better against, The Rays or the Red Sox? I would prefer to face the Rays for reasons previously mentioned... Truth
I would prefer the Rays as well. If we thought the "Dodger bias" of the announcers was bad, I think the "Red Sox bias" will be even worse. Also, after last night, the Red Sox have shown that they are never out of a game, which scares me. Another thing is that we have not fared well against the Red Sox during interleague play. On a personal note, the "Red Sox Nation" irritates the heck out of me and I can't bear the thought (although in my mind it is a remote possibility) of losing to them. bski
