CLEARWATER, Fla. -- Four more additions to clubhouse this morning: Placido Polanco, Wilson Valdez, Matt Miller and Brian Schlitter.
That leaves, by my count, 10 players who have yet to report. The list:
**In fairness, Howard was using the facilities before pitchers and catchers reported. He hasn't been down here this week, though.
Out of 59 total players in camp, that's not bad. Everyone must report by Friday and the first full-squad workout is Saturday.
-- Polanco, of course, deemed himself healthy and ready to go. He said doctors removed a dime-sized bone spur from his left elbow.
"The doctor pulls it out and he says, 'It's bigger than it looks,'" Polanco recalled. "I didn't want to see it."
They also fixed a tendon in his elbow, cleaning it up. The result? Polanco has two large scars.
-- Antionio Bastardo, the only pitcher in camp who has yet to throw off a mound, left camp this morning with the flu. Rough beginning of spring for the young lefthander, who was scheduled to throw Thursday but his illness may delay that again.
-- First sight of Ryne Sandberg this morning. He's wearing No. 23.
-- Random sighting of the day: Vance Worley has two black gloves in his locker. One has "Vanimal" written on it. The other says "V-Dub."
