The Phillies beat the Diamondbacks, 11-4.
They got 16 hits. They didn't hit one home run, which is worth noting. Charlie Manuel lamented the fact before the game that this team hasn't been able to put together big innings without hitting home runs. Well, tonight they scored four runs in the third and four runs in the seventh without the help of the long ball.

Jamie Moyer allowed six hits and two runs in seven innings. He walked none and struck out five. He threw well.

Max Scherzer is gone after four innings. Jamie Moyer keeps truckin'. He's allowed one run and three hits through the first four innings.

The Diamondbacks tied the game in the second, but the Phillies have been able to hit Diamondbacks phenom Max Scherzer. Chase Utley hit a one-out double in the third to get things going. Ryan Howard walked. Geoff Jenkins hit a two-out single to center to score Utley to make it 2-1. Pedro Feliz reached on an error to scored Howard, who had moved to third on a wild pitch to make it 3-1. Carlos Ruiz followed with another single to score Jenkins, and Jamie Moyer doubled down the left-field line to score Feliz to make it 5-1.
Moyer is 2 for 2 against Scherzer.
Scherzer made his big-league debut April 29 against Houston and threw 4 1/3 innings of perfect relief. It was the longest debut in modern baseball history of a pitcher who retired every batter he faced. He also struck out seven batters. But the Phillies, who entered the series struggling offensively, have done a good job so far.
