Phillies prospects Lou Marson and Jason Donald have been selected to play for Team USA from Aug. 8-24 at the Beijing Olympics. They will leave the Reading Phillies on July 28.

Marson, a catcher, and Donald, a shortstop, both play for double-A Reading.

Donald, the organization's third-round pick in 2006, is hitting .301 with 16 doubles, three triples, 12 homers and 47 RBIs at the all-star break. Marson, the team's fourth-round pick in 2004, is hitting .321 and leading the Eastern League with a .442 on-base percentage. He also has 16 doubles, four homers and 45 RBIs.

Gulf Coast League Phillies manager Roly de Armas will be a coach on the team managed by Davey Johnson.

Thank God they didn't take Carrasco, I hope to see him before Sept. to replace Eaton.

Todd: Please answer my question. Wasn't there a decision denying the events of baseball and softball the honor of Olympic medals? Thanks.

Why haven't the Phillies given Marson a chance to try out the Majors yet? Can't hit worse than Ruiz is.

vinceabs - Phils have said they didn't think Marson would be a big improvement hitting-wise over Ruiz (remember Ruiz hit .300+ at AAA too) and the pitchers love throwing to him (i think we have a better record in his games than coste's despite the batting average difference. jimmymack - US baseball couldn't take Carrasco, the World team could - and did. LBoogige - with Harden and CC gone, who you gonna trade them for? Burnett? he's never been that good. with the derth of catching talent around, i think you have to keep the "catcher of the future". and would Carrasco be much worse than Burnett?

You trade mongers have forgot Pat the bat is finished at the end of this year. Should he be bait for a front line pitcher who has the same fate, or shall we just let him walk?

Thanks for the update on Carassco, didn't see that selection. Sometimes work gets in the way of following everything...LOL.

Blanton is the latest rumor. I have watched him pitch many times. Is he better? He may be a slight upgrade over Eaton. i am sure Happ is equally as good. Remember, he pitched in the BANDBOX against the Mets, only game won, and the Cards with Pujois. Give him a chance. Is Blanton under contract for next year if they trade? Trading Happ, Marson or Carassco is not an option. It is plainly not very intelligent. It won't significantly improve things now or more importantly in the future.

I was sorry I didn't get a chance to see Marson or Carassco last Sunday (they were at the Futures All-Star game)when I went to the Reading Phils game. It would've been fun to watch them in action. I think the Phils are right to hang on to them.

Marson's defense isn't major league ready. He can hit but needs more time to work on his defensive skills which are currently far below Carols Ruiz. He's only in AA.
