CLEARWATER, Fla. -- John Maine, the 29-year-old righthander who spent the past five seasons with the Mets, could make a decision on where he will sign by Thursday, his agent said.

The Phillies remain interested in Maine but are not by any means the most likely destination as suggested in an ESPNNewYork.com report Wednesday.

Rex Gary, Maine's Philadelphia-based agent, said any deal the righthander signs will include an out clause. The deal he signs will likely be a minor-league contract with an invite to big-league camp.

Maine pitched in just nine games in 2010 and his season ended with shoulder surgery. Gary said Maine is throwing at a relaxed 88-90 m.p.h. and the Phillies are among a few teams who have seen the pitcher throw.
