Looks like Worley for Monday

Prior to Friday's game, Charlie Manuel said the team hadn't decided on a second starter for Monday's doubleheader against Florida.

"We don't know exactly who it is yet," he said.

But hours later, a giant hint was dropped. Righthander Vance Worley started for triple-A Lehigh Valley and was removed after a scoreless first inning. A Phillies official said he was not injured.

That means Worley, 23, will likely be the guy Monday. In 27 starts between triple A and double A, Worley has a 3.36 ERA. He was a third-round pick in the 2008 draft.

Worley pitched one inning for the Phillies earlier this season during a brief call-up. He struck out two Rockies on July 24.

Roy Oswalt will start the other game of the doubleheader — exactly which one is yet to be decided.

I saw that the Marlins record vs RHPs was dismal, but their record against LHPs was was excellent. So that eliminated using the ex-Marlin LHP Nate Robertson, and made Worley a great choice, much better than the other RH option, Drew "I shoulda been a" Carpenter. He hasn't improved one bit in the last few years and Worley looks like he has good stuff, at least he did in his one inning earlier this year. I guess one inning really won't show us too much, but he was very impressive and was not intimidated. I say he pitches well for us Monday.

I like this kid. If he pitches well down the stretch, maybe he could make the playoff roster replacing one of the injured players: Moyer, Baez.

zorro, dont you have to be on the 40 man roster as of 9/1 to be part of the playoffs? some more stats woulda been nice. 5 seconds of research reveals he has given up 43 hits and 10 bb in 43 inning, and fanned 35. let's give the kid a win!

I believe you can replace an injured player with another player regardless if he was in the 25 man roster or not by the 8/31 and that player will be eligible for the post season. I could be wrong.

Ok, the injured player has to be in the 40 man roster, the replacement doesn't have to be.

I think Worley is on the 40 man roster. He pitched an inning for the Phils earlier in the year.
