Looking for Two in a Row
The Phillies beat the A's last night, 4-0. Can they win two in a row?

Charlie Manuel wasn't happy that his team scored just four runs last night in a 4-0 victory over the A's, so he continues to tinker with the Phillies lineup.
Check out today's lineup against A's righthander Rich Harden:
1. Jimmy Rollins, SS
2. Chase Utley, 2B
3. Pat Burrell, LF
4. Ryan Howard, 1B
5. Greg Dobbs, 3B
6. Shane Victorino, CF
7. Jayson Werth, RF
8. Geoff Jenkins, DH
9. Carlos Ruiz, C

Here's a look at how some Phillies have been struggling lately.

Mark1npt, I hear what your saying, but the injury has nothing to do with it. If he can steal bases and run around the bases with no problem, its not the injury. Rollins has never hit for high average, .290 is high for him. He never has a great OBP, especially for a lead off hitter. I dont think Rollins has lost a step from the injury, he is just playing to his career averages at this point. Clinton, NJ
Frustration takes no prisoners. We can go silently into the night with playing poorly and losing, remembering of course not to hurt the feelings of our players. Utley may still be MVP regardless of the Phillies outcome. The Phils are in the business of filling seats, not winning. They are filling seats. No we are filling seats. How unhappy do you think Dave Montgomery, Pat Gillick, and the owners are? Record crowds, record profits. They can really take the edge off of losing. Nick from the Northeast
My definition of a quality start, means not giving up 1st inning runs to put your team in a hole....That's all Eaton and Myers seem to do on a regular basis, anything after that is just gravy for the opposition......as far as JRoll is concerned, I warned everyone here that when he returned from the DL he would not be the same player, the 5 tool guy who blossomed last year and put it all together......his ankle injury was/is not good, and will forever rob him of parts of his game we have come to expect.....the result will be inconsistency and sub par production for the remainder of his career. I would love for him to prove me wrong, but medically I know I'm right. Mark1npt
Tom Gordon is finished.Bite the bullet and send him back to Florida.Have him take So with him.Bring up 2 from the minors.Any 2 will do. penn state man
Coste and Feliz were very productive yesterday. So Manuel punishes them by sitting them down. On the other hand, Jenkins, who is useless, is rewarded with another start. I'm perplexed. robertthomas
ABOVE .300 i meant...damn they suck!!! Clinton, NJ
And another thing...Its pathetic that we dont have an everyday player hitting about .300! Clinton, NJ
Im sick of being nice. These guys suck right now and im tired of this horrible play! Howard is just not the guy he was two years ago. Rollins needs to step it up, I really thought he would show up in Oakland. The pitching is still holding up, they did a decent job this week. Utley hopefully is coming out of his funk. Jenkins is in a Utley type slide, 0-25 or so. These guys need to get there heads in the game and start playing like they are capable of playing. Im soooo sick of all the strikeouts!!!! Clinton, NJ
These guys are painful to watch and listening to Wheels make excuses makes it even worse. Wheeler is to announcing as Myers (or Eaton) are to starting pitching. Brutal. jimmymack
Ed Wade and the Right of Way. If you cross a highway in front of a speeding truck, although you may have the right of way, he has the truck. Ed Wade is used to bullying players and staff around him. One notable on was when he decided to pick on Marcus Hayes during spring training and tried to embarass and humiliate Hayes in front of his peers. This time he picked on a 6'3", 220 lb professional athlete and got decked. Chacon was wrong but Wade got his ass whipped. Although he may pitch badly, Chacon will pitch again, probably for the Yankees. However, the Astros players and coaches have lost all respect for Ed Wade. When he gets fired it will be the third Astro GM in 3 years to go. That will cost Astros president, Tal Smith, his job. He is Ed Wade's last friend in baseball. Wade may be relegated to scouting Chacon for the Kansas City Royals. Nick from the Northeast
KAREN A: You misunderstood me. I would love for us to manufacture runs. What I was saying was that the only way we score is when we hit home runs. When we don't, we struggle to push runs across. bski
WITH THE DH WE FINALLY HAVE THE CHANCE TO RID OURSELVES OF THE LIABILITY OF BURRELL IN THE OUTFIELD..WHY ISN'T HE THE DH COMMISH78
Awful! bednarick
Are we sure Burrell is really the slowest? I got to think Ryan Howard has less wheels than Pat. Coste should play every day. We should get rid of Jenkins. Why not keep the same lineup as last night? LetsGoFlyers
It was def NOT the pitching that lost the game today period phairmount- Adam Eaton did his job today. 3 runs in seven innings is more than a quality start. As we found out last year, the Philles go as J-Roll goes. 3 Ks and an error today in front of the hometown gang. Not that anyone else on the club is doing anything to compensate for Jimmy's lack of production. RAS
- Oakland, CA- Reports that the Phillies offense was sighted Wednesday night in the Bay Area have turned out to be nothing more than rumors. Deep into an afternoon game against the A's on Thursday, there was still no sign of the Phils' bats. Meanwhile, Adam Eaton, while surrendering only 3 runs, has thrown 111 pitches through 7 innings. Anyone with information on the whereabouts of the team's hitting is urged to contact Pat Gillick at the Phillies' office. bobby
I don't get the DH situation. Why wouldn't the slowest player, Pat Burrell, get slotted as the DH? Adam Eaton is terrible, pay him his money and send him on his way. Carrasco must be better, get him up here! Casey
Check out this link for more on the Ed Wade story. http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/8284734/Wade-really-needs-to-look-in-the-mirror?CMP=OTC-K9B140813162&ATT=49 Deb in Dixie- Looking for 2 in a row? Here's how NOT to start: Top of the 1st, K, K, Pop-up. Bottom of the 1st: BB (4 pitches), double, single... I'll stop there, but that leaves us with 2 runs in, a runner on 1st, and ) out. Oh, brother. bobby
Burrell is too slow to bat him 3rd. He's a road block on the base path. Bizzle

Can't Howard strike out just as well from the 7th spot as the 4th spot? jimmymack- Praise God Almighty, Charlie finally broke up the two lefties Utley- Howard in the lineup. I've been calling for that all year. I thought last night's lineup was only a one time deal. I hope they stick with it. I like Utley in the two-hole. RAS
Jenkins belongs on the bench for at least a few days...he's been worthless! cujat13
What's the over/under on the number pitches Jimmy sees? I'd be crazed if he didn't have an OPS of over .900 on the first pitch this season. Facing Harden isn't going to help Jenkins break out of his funk. Coste needs to be in there. Forget Ruiz. Forget what Coste says about not being an everyday player. Force him to prove it. DH Coste since it's a day game after a night game. Joe in Haddonfield
I agree bski to a point, but I think it's also good to see the team manufacture runs without the HR ball. Seems to me to make the team more well-rounded and also it obviously means that they're working on not leaving too many men base. KarenA
Marlins had 1 hit today. timm
Manuel shouldn't be happy. The win was great, but Kendrick got it for us. The offense is still the same old story. When we hit home runs, we score in bunches. No home runs means not much scoring(like 4 runs last night). bski
Why in gods name is Jenkins playing? Put Coste as the DH, Feliz, anyone! scotty82
