Said it before, but its gonna be the main topic today. It took us 5 years to do it, but, We've finally gotten out of debt, we've saved our 6 month emergency fund, we're investing 15% for retirement, and started college funds for the kids. Now you see a shiny red Corvette (Halladay) and all bets are off... Typical shortsighted approach... Did that 5 year ARM you took out not teach you anything? Halladay is great, He's the shiny new corvette at the dealership, and you may have enough money for it. The problem is, it took you close to 5 years to save that money. The cash is sitting there, accruing interest, getting bigger and better. The security of having the cash is great too. Now you want to take all that money and purchase smething that declines in value year after year. Ruben, don't short-sell the college fund for a year and a half fling... Keep Halladay out of Philly. Taylor will be up next season. Drabek possibly gets a shot at the bigs next season too. Don't buy the Vette...

Who in your opinion would or should be untouchable prospects even for a stud like Holliday? And do you agree with me that Myers will probably not be resigned next year by the club??

Agreed. I'm a little more flexible if you can sign him to an extension

Why do the Phils keep putting in Lidge in non-save situations? I'm definitely of the opinion that with his knee healthy he is our closer, but he definitely seems to struggle in that role (0-4 this year). I know Lidge was warm, but I was surprised Manuel didn't put in Chan Ho Park.

MORTGAGE IT! It's not a retirement plan where safe is the rule! Its a shot at a world championship. Drabek could be a bust or need Tommy John next year. Halliday will win the next two Cy Young's and make them fav's to win it all. And if he walks in 1.5 years, you get two picks back. Go 6 for 1 if you have to, just get Halliday here.

The Phillies should not be concerned about the future in the farm system because the future is now. This team will only be together for so long (3 or 4 more years), so why not bring in Roy to complete this team!

I would do this if we're talking about non-system prospects like Bastardo and Mayberry. The Phil's don't have as much invested in non-system players both financially and emotionally. Also, Hallady would have to agree to a multi-year extension. Even if getting him would cost System Prospects, I just would not want to rent Halladay for a season and a half. Don't believe Rubin would either. Let's get Kendrick up here and find out once and for all if the kid can play. If not, bring up the next banana, but, you cannot finish the season with 4 lefty starters. If you look at the league's hitters, you need to have 3 righty's in the rotation. Hamels, Blanton, Moyer/Happ and ? and ?.

Swash - correction - need Tommy John AGAIN. He's already had it once and he's only 21!

This core group of players has 2-3 years before they start to get old or too expensive to keep together. I don't see enough prospects, especially at IF positions, to re-load on the fly so it probably makes sense to trade what you've got and try to win the next 2-3 years then re-assess where you are.

Why do fans keep talking about the future? That's for teams who don't have a collection of players currently in their prime! The way people talk, you'd think we weren't the defending world champs! It's time to protect the crown and you want to forgo one of, if not the best pitcher in the majors who's in his prime for bodies who have not even worn a major league uniform. I guess they're of the Eagles ownership mindset in that they'd rather be competitive for the next 10 years than be dominant for 2-4. Us not trading for Halladay because we don't want to give up Drabek is stupid. If, and I mean a giant if, Drabek turns out to be as good as halladay, it won't matter cuz the team that won the chip will have already been broken up.

We're not going to get Halliday for Bastardo and Mayberry. We will have to include them possibly with 3 stud prospects. I think this is a no brainer. Go for a 2nd consecutive World Series. We're not going to win with the current pitching staff and Pedro is not going to get us there either. This guy is awesome and would be a aperfect fit for our stadium and club. Pull out all the plugs and pay whatever it takes to get him.

The goal is not to have a great farm system and "hope" it comes to fruitation. The goal is to win championships now, and having Halladay in this rotation with this nucleus in place gives you that chance at mutliple rings now.
