DENVER -- Closer Brad Lidge has returned to Philadelphia for an examination on his sore right elbow, Phillies assistant general manager Scott Proefrock said.

Lidge was unavailable to pitch Monday after beginning to feel stiffness in his surgically repaired elbow. He threw before Tuesday's rainout and was not pleased with the way his elbow felt.

Proefrock said no MRI was scheduled but team doctor Michael Ciccotti could decide to have one administered.
