DENVER -- Closer Brad Lidge has returned to Philadelphia for an examination on his sore right elbow, Phillies assistant general manager Scott Proefrock said.
Lidge was unavailable to pitch Monday after beginning to feel stiffness in his surgically repaired elbow. He threw before Tuesday's rainout and was not pleased with the way his elbow felt.
Proefrock said no MRI was scheduled but team doctor Michael Ciccotti could decide to have one administered.
- Uh oh.
Hopefully it was the cold, wet weather in Denver. n62
You can thank RAJ for the bullpen mess. You can't cross your fingers and hope Romero and Lidge "bounce back". You have to have a better plan than that. scootch- Scootch: when was the last time you tuned in? Contreras will be our new closer before long. He's good. Lidge is an afterthought at this point. If Baez can get his act together, we'll be just fine. gho_matt
Hes done, your new closer Danny Biaz cuch

Enough of this act. Thank you for 2008, seriously but either you're healthy or you're not. davekrieg
Here we go again.. May be time to start looking for a new closer. It too bad, lidge in his prime is lights out. Murrayag11
Bullpen by committee. Sit Lidge for now and go with what you have. They certainly have enough arms out there, and between Contreras and Baez you have experience. No need to rush anything or make some drastic move like trading three prospects for...oops. AlanInFlorida
Setup = Baez. Closer = Contreras. Make Lidge, Romero and Madson earn their spots back... malaysian mink

Slim pickings off the rack if he needs to be replaced. Verrrry concerning... Grazman
Let's see, all-star closer out, all-star shortstop out, number 3 pitcher out till now. If we were the Mets we'd be using these as excuses for being in last place. towman
Comment removed.- I like the idea of Baez/Madson setting up and Contreras/Baez closing, if Lidge can't go at all. If he can, Charlie can shuffle Lidge/Contreras/Baez around in the closer spot. But what I'm worried about now is the 6th-7th inning. Durbin is solid there, but he can't go every day, and with a rotation that contains non-innings-eaters like Moyer (I know what he did the other day, but it was exceptional) and Kendrick, the Phils need another middle-relief guy they can trust. I don't know if Herndon is that guy.
