Lidge rocked in rehab debut

POSTED: Saturday, April 10, 2010, 8:08 PM

HOUSTON -- Some not-so-good news as the Phillies mount another big inning against the Astros...

Closer Brad Lidge (elbow, knee) pitched in his first rehab game for single-A Clearwater tonight and couldn’t finish an inning. He allowed four earned runs on three hits and a walk in two-thirds of an inning.

Lidge was pitching in a game situation for the first time since receiving a cortisone shot March 30 to help boost his velocity. The Phillies had been pleased with his recent progress.

But now there are even more questions about his health. We haven't heard any indications on Lidge's velocity, but it couldn't have been great if single-A hitters were teeing off him. We'll see what else we can find out.

Some good news: Lefthander J.C. Romero pitched a scoreless inning for Clearwater in his second rehab outing. He allowed one hit and struck out two. Romero has pitched two scoreless innings in two rehab outings.

my goodness, Lidge was such a fraud in 2008 wasn't he? yes maybe he's done now, but World Champs made the deal worthwhile.

If Brad Lidge is done, and I hope not, he gave us Phillie fans a year that will live forever in our hearts.

5280philly Never, ever give a closer $36M over three years? I would have given Mariano Rivera a 36M deal at Lidge's age.

    F. Harry: thanks for your incisive comment on the Cliff Lee trade. I'll definitely take your uninformed drivel over a bucketfull of scouting reports. Thanks again.

Hey Loofah brush - answer me this - if the 3 bags of dirt, sorry, PROSPECTS that they got for Lee were so great why didn't they just spin them to Toronto instead of the three that we shipped out?

ugh...have people forgotten 2008 already. Lidge was perfect that year. He may never regain that form, but the WS was worth getting him alone. As for Charlie, he's a lot smarter than most of you, so don't criticize. He guided this team to a championship, and back to the World Series the year after. Not to bad compared to idiots like Bowa.

My vibes say Lidge may never regain his form. He seems miles and miles away from being an effective major league pitcher again. I do not think Madson is a major league closer either and I think Amaro is going to need to acquire one.. We should be looking at Heath Bell from SD who supposedly could be had for the right price..Time once again to use your prospects to fill a hole Ruben..

3 YEARS from now?? Are you kidding?? We have 3 potential Hall of Famers playing in our infield right now - each one in their early 30's. You know how often that happens? Once in lifetime and that's if you're lucky. The future is NOW not 3 years from now. Lee in a Phillies uniform for $8 million even if it was from July on would give us a better chance at winning the WS then what we got back from Seattle. Muddlehead.

Charlie put Cliff Lee in as a playoff pinch runner. Enough said about his intelligence but he still got us a ring and a half.

Dear Brad, the people on here are the worst fans in the world. But I will gladly tell you that 2008 was the greatest thing you could ever do for a lot of us. And some of us certainly appreciate it. That said, you take as long as you need to get back into form. This team can get it done without you for the time being, because the manager is one who may be strategically flawed, but gets the best out of his players. When that happens, the confidence, wins, and striking fear they put into their opponents is unmatched. Your boys are 5-1 without you and Cliff Lee, but these people will still complain about you, the trade, and anything else they can nitpick about our team. When we cheer you down Broad Street again in October or November, remember that a lot of us genuinely love you and this team for all the joy you have brought us the last 3 years. And as for the rest, you will know who they are because they will be the first ones there that day. Thanks again.

Hey Only 9... Lidge helped this team and town win a championship. No matter what happens from here it was a great trade.
