Lidge rocked in rehab debut

POSTED: Saturday, April 10, 2010, 8:08 PM

HOUSTON -- Some not-so-good news as the Phillies mount another big inning against the Astros...

Closer Brad Lidge (elbow, knee) pitched in his first rehab game for single-A Clearwater tonight and couldn’t finish an inning. He allowed four earned runs on three hits and a walk in two-thirds of an inning.

Lidge was pitching in a game situation for the first time since receiving a cortisone shot March 30 to help boost his velocity. The Phillies had been pleased with his recent progress.

But now there are even more questions about his health. We haven't heard any indications on Lidge's velocity, but it couldn't have been great if single-A hitters were teeing off him. We'll see what else we can find out.

Some good news: Lefthander J.C. Romero pitched a scoreless inning for Clearwater in his second rehab outing. He allowed one hit and struck out two. Romero has pitched two scoreless innings in two rehab outings.

I'm soooo glad this is Moyer's last season. I've seen enough, thank you.

Poor Richard - what's your problem dude? Charlie may not be the most intellectual manager around, but he's far from stupid. In fact, he's so smart that he's fooled you. Wait a minute.... that's can't be tough to do.

Good news since I prefer no Lidge this year

You're stupid if you're going to single out any single action of Charlie's. Aside from whatever technical and decision-making skills he brings, Charlie's strength as a manager is his capacity to bring the best out of his players. He does that sticking by them... Sometimes that is going to backfire (e.g. Lidge) but other times (look at Rollins now) it works out. Judged as a whole, he's got a pretty good thing going in that dugout. He has faith in his players and if you had any sense/character you would have faith in him.

Two World Series, I bet all the managers wished they were that stupid.

Madson doesn't seem like the one to be the closer - I worry more when he closes then I did when Mitch Williams closed

If the Phils keep hitting like this, we may never need a closer.

Never, ever give a closer $36M over three years. Moyer: the only bad deal Amaro did.

We have a potential closer in the making....David Herndon! This kid is a keeper. Sliders and sinkers in the low 80's and fastballs in the low to mid 90's. Send Lidge to Eatonville.

Hmmmm... Charlie's stupid and someone else "knew" Lidge was a fraud. I guess this team will never get to the World Series let alone win one.
