Letting It Sink In
The Phillies have won the World Series.
Letting It Sink In

Did that really happen?
Did that really happen?
It did. Brad Lidge really threw that 0-2 slider to Eric Hinske at 9:58 p.m. last night at Citizens Bank Park, and Hinske really swung and missed to beat the Tampa Bay Rays in Game 5 of the World Series, 4-3. The Phillies really are World Series champions.
Believe it.
Savor it.
Un-freaking-believable.
Phil Sheridan asks you to cherish the moments that made this postseason so unforgettable. That would be a smart thing to do because everybody in Philadelphia knows how rare moments like this are. It had been 25 years since Philly enjoyed its last sports championship. It had been 28 since Tug McGraw bounced off the mound at Veterans Stadium.
So enjoy it.
Oh, yeah, parade at noon tomorrow.

Bob Ford writes that in perhaps his final at-bat with the Phillies, Pat Burrell came through with the biggest hit of his life.

It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Bill Lyon writes.

John Gonzalez kisses Negadelphia good bye. Gonzalez, Ford and Sheridan wonder where the 2008 Phillies rank among the most beloved teams in city history.

How about Geoff Jenkins? He hadn't had a hit since Sept. 28. He had been hitless in three postseason at-bats. But then he ripped a double to right-center field to leadoff the bottom of the sixth inning. ... Chase Utley made a hell of a defensive play in the seventh inning. ... You can be perfect. Just ask Lidge. ... Cole Hamels is World Series MVP. ... Frank Fitzpatrick isn't happy about the alcohol policy at the ballpark because it makes people act like, well, idiots. On that note, it's a shame that some idiots had to light fires and loot a luggage store in Center City. It's too bad morons in the Northeast were throwing beers at police. Unfortunately, people outside of Philly see that stuff on TV and think we're barbarians. ... Fitzpatrick surveys the scene from the stands. ... Joe Maddon some questionable pitching decisions last night. ... Some fans had a brutal night with tickets.
Hey keith1995, not the same as the full paper, but go to http://www.newseum.org/ and you can download and print the front pages for many of the Philly area newspapers, including the Daily News and the Inq. That's what I did! Now my cublical at work is well adorn with them! And can I just say as I keep reading this articles, I keep getting all teary eyed! That parade will be amazing! I'll be there in spirit! Deb in Dixie
I've been a baseball fan my whole life (Jamie Moyer & I are almost the same age). When they won it in 1980, I was away at college and didn't get to really enjoy the experience. Plus this was before 24/7 cable/internet access and of course the bloggers here at the Phillies Zone! So this is really extra sweet. KarenA
You guys won't believe this... I had the strangest dream last night. I dreamt the Phillies won the World Series over, get this, Tampa Bay. And it gets even better. They clinched it in a Game 5 that took 3 days to play!! Wait... no, seriously, wait. You're telling me that actually happened??? Hehehehehehehehehe... If Hollywood screenwriters were this good, movies wouldn't suck so bad lately. RollinsWasRight
THE TRUTH SPEAKS: It's been a long and rewarding season for the city, the Phillies fans, the mgmt and even TRUTH. Thru our journey together I hope I was able to teach the Zo' and the bloggers on this a thing or two about true passion for a team. I certainly was wrong several times ie: Little Shane has made us all forget Rowand, Myers turned it around and now can be considered a solid "3" starter, Gillick led this organization to a WS by tinkering around the edges, Rollins did not have a broken ankle, Moyer's arm did not fall off and most importantly the heart and character of this team. As a matter of fact there can be nothing that I was correct about b/c this team it's mgmt, its ownership did something I was certain was unattainable. I rooted for them nonetheless. I implore all of you to recongize YOUR erors the same way I recongize mine when it is time for Howard to get paid next Feb. Do not forget Sept and all that he accomplished. Do not forget that he carried this team on its back in Sept, and then effectively shut the door in gm 4 of the WS. CHEERS Truth
Do you all see that?? TRUTH is admitting that he was wrong all year long!! Serriously, though, without Truth this blog wouldn't have been nearly as interesting or entertaining. Thanks for being a part Truth and see you here during the off season jeff gross
You are right Truth, we all learned a lot from and about you. Because after all, this blog was all about you. Only you (and Ryan's agent)would care about how much he gets paid on the day after we win a World Series. It's hard to be in a bad mood today, but I'll give you credit for at least being irritating. Now go back to the basement, put your tin foil hat on and channel Ryan Howard in every way imaginable. jimmymack- Sorry, Jeff, but I BEG to differ: You sell us all short when you say that this blog "wouldn't have been nearly as interesting or entertaining." Excuse me? Good solid baseball and Phillies talk does just fine for me, thank you. I'm not being mean here, just pointing out that I don't think we need outlandish and often offensive posts to keep things interesting. OK, there were occasions when the poster in question added thoughtful and/or valid opposing viewpoints to the discussion. Let me count them on one hand... done. So I'm not attacking him or being a hater when I challenge your statement. I simply don't think we need to elevate his participation in this blog to such a positive status. In my opinion it's just not warranted. (Frankly, I got along fine all season by simply ignoring the bulk of his posts.) bobby
Glad to see everyone coming together at such a monumental occasion. Truth, we all make mistakes, and I'm glad to hear you eat crow. Much like you admission about management, etc... I have vowed to never boo any member of these World Champions. They have earned eternal absolution in my mind. I have lived my entire life not knowing what it's like to be on top. Honestly, I wasn't sure If I'd EVER know. Now that these guys have brought this city, this sport and my wildest dreams together, I could never look down upon them. When Spring Training rolls around next March, I'll look at the Phils as Champions, not could've-beens. Sully
Zo.....I noticed you lifted my Lidge/Tugger *last out on the mound* camparison. That's OK. Next time, just give me a by-line. LOL! Norma
Bobby, I was being polite. I can't be mean to anyone today, I'm just too happy. But then again, if you didn't take teh opposite side of a statement by me then this blog wouldn't be the same. I just hope Zo keps this blog going off season and you all log in every now and then jeff gross
Jeez-Jimmymack, I guess I can't win. No need to be upset b/c the subject matter I discussed this season made you uncomfortable. There is a racial component to this city and this franchise that should be discussed, there is a history of losing that should be discussed, there are decisions that have been made by the Phillies that can be discussed outside play on the diamond. jimmymack or Bobby possibly your mental apptitude did not allow you to take your conversations to another level. Anyhow, I tried to eat humble pie humbly but simply was not allowed. Truth
keith1995....I just heard that the Inquirer and Daily News are doing another run at 3:00. Norma- Got my tickets for the Linc celebration tomorrow. Now waiting to see if I can get CBP tickets, but doesn't look good. bobby
One of the local papers talked about Lidge and Ruiz having some friendly bantering about who was going to keep the *last out* ball. They decided to give it to Charlie. Nice! Norma
I remember the Phillies Parade in '80 and teh 76ers in '83. I don't remember needing to buy tickets to get into the Vet, we just walked in. How much are they charging to party at Linc or at CBP? jeff gross
