Laynce Nix, center fielder

POSTED: Thursday, August 16, 2012, 4:26 PM

MILWAUKEE — Laynce Nix has started 199 career games in center field, but only four since 2007. He is the newest player to play center for the Phillies as he finds himself there Thursday.

Nix played 8 1/3 innings in center last season for Washington. Without Shane Victorino, the Phillies have no true player for center. John Mayberry Jr. has spent the majority of time there but has not impressed with his bat or glove. Michael Martinez is a utility infielder who can play there.

So that leaves Nix.

The rest of the lineup against Brewers righty Marco Estrada:

1. Jimmy Rollins 6
2. Juan Pierre 7
3. Chase Utley 4
4. Ryan Howard 3
5. Domonic Brown 9
6. Laynce Nix 8
7. Kevin Frandsen 5
8. Erik Kratz 2
9. Cliff Lee 1

I have not bashed Charlie all year or blamed him for this teams woes this year, but that changes as of today. To have the stones to keep Jimmy Poppins in that lineup tonight after Rollins once again refusing to run hard and putting Nix in CF, who has no speed whatsoever, is a disgrace and inexcusable. What happened to allowing Brown to play CF every once in a while to see what he can do out there? Is Manuel brain dead? I don't understand this lineup.

Rollins' actions last night and Tweet today when called out on them were an embarrassment. Charlie's failure to bench him tonight is just as embarrassing.

@Roy: You need to ask? Manuel is indeed brain dead. Nix in center? Give me a break. And, JPoP leading off once again? He continues his trot to first because Manuel is an enabler. Manuel has no cahones. None, zero, zippo. I have never seen more ridiculous, clueless line ups than those submitted by this clown. My dead grandmother could submit a lineup that made more sense -- ANY of us could.

Back in the late 1800's, Percival Lowell and other astronomers squinted through their telescopes and were convinced they saw canals on Mars that had been built by an intelligent civilization. In the early 2000's, Ruin Tomorrow Jr., Charlie Manuel and other Phillies' brass squinted through their binoculars and were convinced they saw prospects for 2013 on the field at CBP that had been assembled by an intelligent front office. It turned out that in both cases, what they were seeing was really just patterns of dust.

Notice Brown didn't bust it like he usually does on one of his later AB's either. Cholly, you lost 'em. You gotta go, and take Ruben with you while you're at it. We've got talent, but everybody is way too comfortable. Think of all the talent out there that would love to play/manage/gm with this kind of payroll!!

Why not start Rollins in center and bat him 8th! Maybe he'll get the point that he needs to try out for this team next year. Juan Pierre should be leading off every day for the rest of the season to show these morons how a real professional looks and acts!

Manuel, by playing J-Stroll, is saying to every other player on the team; it's OK by me if you don't want to run out ground-outs! Nix in Center is a joke, right?

Nothing about Nix's glove or bat has been impressive. But with Scheuerholz having broken his toe, there's no one to run out there except Mayberry, who looks on offense and defense like a career bench player.

...It's just that you normally dont see a guy in center who has his 40yard dash timed with a calendar...

Well, that's exciting. Shane Victorino is looking better and better every day.

With Melky getting busted and Bourn being overrated in every way possible, Victorino should be priority number 2 next year behind a power bat in the OF. Hell, trade Dom Brown and Cliff Lee to AZ for Justin Upton. Somebody other than the group of clowns they have now (minus Pierre, of course)

Lance Nix is still on the Phillies. Is this his first appearance since his almost whole season long DL?
