Kendrick sent to minors

POSTED: Monday, March 23, 2009, 11:58 AM

The Phillies today optioned RHP Kyle Kendrick to the minor leagues, where he will likely pitch for the Triple A Lehigh Valley IronPigs.  This ends Kendrick's attempt to begin the season as the Phillies' fifth starter, of course. They also optioned C Lou Marson and INF Brad Harman.  We'll do everything we can to speak with Kendrick before he leaves.

Keep checking for updates.

Also, Curt Schilling is hanging up the bloody sox.

UPDATE 2:55

Kendrick spoke to reporters in front of his locker about an hour ago.  He was composed and focused on developing his secondary pitches and returning as a starter.  "I know what I need to do to get back here," he said.

Although Carlos Carrasco remains in camp, he will likely begin the season at Triple-A Lehigh Valley.  So the race for teh fifth starter is down to J.A. Happ and Chan Ho Park.  Park said this morning that his hamstring was fine, and that he would pitch tomorrow against Toronto.  Happ has allowed two runs and five hits in five innings against the Yankees today.

Thanks Myers! Kendrick hasn't been the same since that practical joke about him going to Japan.

I like Kendrick's mental makeup, but he just hasn't shown enough stuff. He also benefitted from hitters not having seen him, not tape on him, and once they got a book on him his effectiveness declined quickly.

Do they have a psychiatrist on staff at Lehigh Valley? I think KK needs about 3 sessions per week.

Well Kendrick and Marson are improvements over most of the other candidates that I will be paying to see at Coca Cola park... the talent level we had last year (especially the first half) was downright atrocious. Now we will have Carrasco, Marson, Jason Donald, Kendrick, etc. so at least we will have some legit talent to see.

Bottom line is he just didn't get the job done. Kendrick had Eatonesque numbers the second half last year. I wish him luck and maybe he'll be up here again.

No shock...he does not have the mental toughness to compete yet. Still uncertain if he is major league material. He should have gone to college..

Poor kid. He kinda reminds me of Gavin Floyd. They both have that same deer-in-headlights look on their faces all the time.

At least he knew he wasn't getting punked by Myers again....the kid is no Pat Combs or Tyler Green, he can actually pitch.

Dude, that is no Gavin Floyd...Floyd of 4 yrs ago without the stuff, maybe...you posted that stuff before, don't suppose you noticed that Floyd just signed a 4 yr deal for $15.5 mill and went 17-8 last year?
