Kemp's power numbers are not even close to werth... he deserves to go more than Victorino... but i'm glad they are all in!! I love it!! the '95 Indians has their whole OF elected... once again the haters on these boards look silly... many claimed Werth is not an everyday player... haha... no he's not, he's an all star!!
kemp 319 ave 10 homers 46 rbi's good arm great fielder.. werth 268 ave 20 homers 54 rbi's good fielder great arm.... i dont see how kemp desrves anymore then werth...
I really dont think it was all Charlie's choice. Jayson was above Manny with votes and since Shane got in and Beltran was out, the next vote getter would be put in and that's Jayson.
Werth has more HR, RBI, runs and plays better defense than Kemp. Werth also has a RING. Torre loaded his players on the all star team after the 2001 Yankees World series loss. Same thing here, nice call Charlie! When was the last time the Phils had 5 All-stars?
there's no surprise here. werth plays every day, is an excellent outfielder with a good arm. his clutch hitting is excellent along with his 20 homers and fifty plus rbi's. what's to argue?
For you clowns claiming Werth is a better fielder and has a better arm than Kemp, have you ever watched the Dodgers play? Pretty sure Kemp is 2nd in the league in outfield assists and has 3 more than Werth. Nice try though
According to MLB, any injured starter will be replaced by the top vote-getter on the player ballot who's not a starter.
So Uncle Charlie had nothing to do with it.
It's the first time in 37 years that an NL team sent three outfielders to the All-Star Game -- Roberto Clemente, Willie Stargell and Al Oliver went for Pittsburgh in 1972.
Great pick. The media in other markets will call it favoritism. Guess what, it is! And every other manager does it as well. If you want your extra guy on the All-Star Team, then your team should win the pennant.
looks like its not charlies decision...

According to MLB.com the last time a teams entire OF went to the All Star game was The 1995 Cleveland Indians with Albert Belle, Kenny Lofton and Manny Ramirez
And Chollie should have FRod and Santana warming up every inning. to the victor go the spoils baby! That other 4 eyed f##k named Manuel is doing the same in AL
Reminds me of when the City of Cinn. stuffed the ballot boxes and sent the entire Reds' starting lineup to the All Star game. They had Gus Bell starting in CF over Willie Mays, and George Crowe at 1B over Stan Musial. What a joke. They took the selection process out of the fans' hands the next season and put it back with the players and coaches...Check out the internet. The Giant fans are already all over the MLB.com website complaining that their fat 3B wasn't selected. They already were complaining about Victorino winning the vote in for the final spot. This one really has them frosted. Too Bad. We won it.
wearethechampions - Yea Boston had 3 outfielders, Manny, Lofton and cant remember the 3rd, aaaand in 72' Clemente, Stargell and some other guy did it also, I think we're the 3rd or 4th team to ever have 3 OF in the ASG. On espn, Charlie along with the Phils are getting so much criticism for Werth playing. ig shocker huh? LOL I'm loving every second of it. Some might have better stats than Werth, but no way is he not deserving or good enough to play in the ASG, go Werth !!!
WERTH IS AN EXCELLENT ALL-STAR SELECTION...HE WILL HIT 40 HOME RUNS WITH 120 RBI'S THIS SEASON, AND IS AN EXCELLENT OUTFIELDER WITH A GREAT ARM...AND OF YEAH HE HAS OUTSTANDING SPEED THAT STOLE 4 BASES IN ONE GAME, INCLUDING A STEAL OF HOME.
So ridiculous. Pablo doesn't make the team but Werth and Howard do? This is nothing but nepotism. The Giants have a better record, and Pablo has better numbers than both of these guys. Charlie Manuel and Philly fans should be embarrassed.
Charlie Manual has just made this years all star game into a joke by selecting Jayson Werth to the NL roster. He wasn't even one of the finalists for the 33rd player. Charlie, you should have done the right thing and selected the one player most fans would have wanted to see and who was most deserving...Pablo Sandoval. You're a pathetic homer.

CONGRATUALTIONS JASON AND THE PHILLIES...YOU EARNED IT BABY.
albanykey has it right. Every year the Yanks won Torre stuffed the AS team with them, same with the Rsox. I see nothing wrong with Werth being picked and his number make it legit. Atta boy Charlie!
Sandoval earned an all star spot. He's having a great year. I would have picked him over Werth. But Gigantes, you're a doofus if you really believe the Werth selection was a "joke." A guy with 20 homers, 56 rbi and an OPS of .900 with two games to go before the break is certainly worthy of an all star spot.
It is Charlie's perogative....Jason helped Charlie get this gig....so it all makes sense....way to go Charlie....Joe or Tony would have done the same thing

simmer down giant fans ... the only reason sandoval is even starting for the giants is because feliz signed with the phils !!! jason werth hits 40 hrs for the back to back world champs !!!!
How many times have the Phillies or any other team in Philly been on the short end of the stick with this stuff? Good for Charlie. Is it arrogant, yes but when you win it all you can do what you want.
Well, guess what? Joe Torre will be the first to concur with Manuel's selection and he's Kemp's Mgr; also Charlie's right-hand guy on the bench Tuesday night...
Because it would be silly for Ibanez to play a lot of innings on Tuesday, I hope Cholly gets him (wouldn't be surprised if Ibanez initiated this, himself, actually) to agree to not start and play later when all of our outfielders can be in there at the same time...Of course, Manuel can do the ultimate and take out the other two OF's after the first inning and put in Vic and Werth - LOL
PK
of course jason werth is going to get smack for this, favoritism, but jayson Werth deserves this, it has been a long time coming for him....hes one of the hardest workers...like Rudy!!!
