Today already has been pretty surreal. Looking outside my kitchen window this morning I felt like I had relocated a couple blocks from Broad and Pattison. Phillies fans were everywhere. Everywhere. Of course, I'm sure some of that is because I live just up the street from a SEPTA station, but still. This was crazy. This parade is going to be crazy.

The parade route already is a sea of red.

Fans already have started to file into Citizens Bank Park. Mr. Greenjeans is playing on the stage, which is set up at second base.

Phil Sheridan shares some of his thoughts about being on the field after Brad Lidge recorded the final out Wednesday.

Bob Ford tells us how Charlie Manuel outmanaged Joe Maddon in the final innings of Game 5.

Absolute BULL!!!!!!! I saw the parade at City Hall. After it passed, I walked to Race/Vine to catch the Subway to the Linc where I have tickets. The platform was crowded, but not packed. A local train pulled up FULL. Everyone exited. An express train pulled up FULL. Everyone exited. The conductor announced the SEPTA HAS SHUT DOWN THE SUBWAY!!!! There is no way to get to South Philly. The 4 tickets I have will go useless. My friends who are already at Pattison can't get into the stadium. Why did the Mayor encourage everyone to use public transit if SEPTA can't even run it's own operation. Regional Rails are only running outbound, if at all. This City is inadequately prepared for this many people. You look at any other metropolitan area, NY, DC, Boston, Chicago, they have 6 to 10 high-speed lines. We have 2, 3 if you count PATCO. I've waited my whole life for this and I can't even go 5 miles in my own town. SEPTA is an absolute abomination.

I feel for you Sully but I will say that as bad as you think SEPTA is, MARTA in Atlanta is 100% worse. They hardly ever add extra trains and their lines only run north/south, east/west.

Ingenious move by Nutter-tell eveyone to leave your cars at home and then shut down Septa. Its called crowd control. I feel for those stuck but its a pretty smart move considering--

I thought I was caught off guard by Utley until I saw my customers that were within earshot look to see where that came from.

The comment I remember most from the 1980 celebration is Tug McGraw telling New York to "stick it". I'm pretty sure I already know which comment I will remember 28 years from now from this one.

Yeah, Chase Utley's F-bomb was a real scream, unless you happened to be there with your five year old son. What a disappointment.

Oh please, your children will live. Just explain to them that Utley is an adult and adults will sometimes make mistakes or get carried away in the moment. They players are human beings too. Good lord.

Yes, my children will live. And thanks for the parenting tip. Gosh, I never thought of explaining anything to them You're a genius. Problem is, I have to explain such things to my kids far too often. Any wisdom on how I can explain the overturned cars? "Hey, son, that's just what adults do when they get carried away." As for the good Lord, he's probably glad Mr. Utley doesn't say too much during the year.

About Matt Gelb and Bob Brookover

Bob Brookover and Matt Gelb team up for their third straight season covering the Phillies for the Inquirer and philly.com.

This is Brookover’s second stint writing about the Phillies, having joined the coverage team after seven years as an Eagles beat writer. Brookover was hired by The Inquirer in 2000 as the Phillies beat writer after spending 13 years writing about the team for two suburban newspapers. While on the Eagles beat, Brookover, who had covered just two winning Phillies teams in 15 seasons, saw the Phillies move into a cash-cow new ballpark and begin playing a brand of the game he found unrecognizable. Follow him on Twitter here.

Gelb is in his third season covering the Phillies. He was hired by The Inquirer in August 2009 after graduating from Syracuse University. He has also covered baseball at The Star-Ledger and Cape Cod Times. Born and raised in Bucks County, he attended Central Bucks High School West. Follow him on Twitter here.
