Listen folks, the only one that believed in Kendrick was Dubee. He was really never a player in the 5th man competition. I predict this will go to Carrassco. The old regime or thought process would have let him sit in the minors for another yr. Amaro is shrewd and young enough to know that these things cant be left to chance. He could blow out his arm or lose interest. Get what you can from this gunner now and hopefully for the next decade. Kendrick is basically a has been never was. Don't take my comments to mean that I lack appreciation for his good season split between two yrs but once he was figured out he was worthless. As an aside Im surorised our favorite 46 yr old 82 mile an hour fastball throwing pitcher (Jaime Moyer) didn't teach this kid how to manipulate a strike zone and the umps at the same time. Or did he and Kendrick just didn't have the talent? Andy possibly you could add some insight here.

dmeloche1 - Kendrick is no Gavin Floyd. Floyd was a top pitching prospect, he was supposed to be a star - Kendrick was lucky to get a call up out of necessity 2 years ago and somehow pitched well enough to stick around longer than anyone expected. Truth - I agree with everything, except Carrasco. I think it will be Happ or Park with a slight edge to the veteran.

You and the other guy keep writing almost the exact same stories. are you guys purposefully covering the same stuff - no wonder the paper is going bankrupt

Nicnak, did it ever occur to you that they are covering the same game!! What do you want, one of them to invnet the score, etc. the points of interest are the same, no matter what paper you write for: who will be the 5th starter, who will be the 25th man on the roster, how are the injured guys doing. Yes they're both covering the same stuff-the Phils spring training....Truth, Carlos has no chance of making the team this year. he would have had to be lights out to make it and his era is aproaching triple digits. 5th starter is happ

Jayson Stark's analysis of Kendrick's rookie year is that it was the luckiest season by a starter that he's ever researched. For him to have had a W/L record that he did despite the number of base runners he allowed was pure luck. The guy throws BP, and the luck has run out. Eventually skill has to take over. We have better options than this guy, despite how young he is.

Jeff's right on both counts- unless , of course, Kendrick is suddenly enlightened, corrects his delivery flaws, and pitches lights-out for the rest of ST. If Park and Happ are the survivors, who do you think the Phils want in the bullpen? A proven entity? Or a kid whose been groomed to be a starter since day one? Park would have won the job if J.C. had not been unjustly suspended for two months. Happ will not be in the bullpen, or at least not all year. They may try to use him as a J.C. replacement and then send him to Lehigh to stretch out his arm to have him start in August or September, but that would be a bad idea because it could do considerable damage to him as a starter (eg: Brett Myers). Since starters are harder to come by, the Phillies organization shouldn't take a chance on ruining the good ones we have in our farm system just to take care of a temporary need.

doctorj, Jason Stark is an idiot if he wrote or said that. How does one research luck? Was Matt Stairs' homer against the Dodgers luck? Since nothing in baseball is guaranteed (except Brad Lidge as a closer in '08), everything involves "luck" or "some luck".

can anyone say "Brandon Duckworth"? send him to the minors & use him for trade bait. he did it with mirrors for 1 1/2 years-his mirrors are now broken/

eric h..stark and a lot of other analists have said this since day one with KK...their reasoning was he gave up lots of hits, lots of baserunners and seemed to get out of it with some hard hit outs and big double plays..this along with good offensive support is where the "luck" thing came from. I like the kid and loved his story but its pretty obvious that it was somewhat of a fluke..now he just has to adapt and find his good 2nd pitch. A lot of 24 year olds havent touched the bigs yet so hopefully he can figure it out.

Gary Varsho: I'm well aware that Kyle Kendrick is no Gavin Floyd. I actually said that in my own post; clearly Floyd is the better pitcher. The point is that neither guy has any confidence or composure on the mound. When you're pitching with that state state of mind you will not be successful regardless of how much talent you have.

Gavin Floyd had (has?) much better stuff than Kendrick will ever have. Floyds curve ball is amongst the best in the business. Kendrick needs to be sent down to AAA and work on his change up.
