Amaro: Utley still needs at-bats

ST. LOUIS -- Chase Utley will play again Monday night for single-A Clearwater, going on back-to-back days for the second time in official rehab games.

He has 28 at-bats in his rehab (including extended spring training games). But Ruben Amaro Jr. dispelled any notions that Utley could be back with the Phillies when Wednesday's homestand begins.

"Let's put it this way: He's not coming to Philadelphia in the middle of the week," Amaro said. "He needs at-bats."

What is most surprising?

A clarification is needed: Utley did not play nine innings Sunday as the official boxscore indicated. He played just seven. So he has yet to play nine full innings in the field, something that could happen tonight.

Utley's schedule in official rehab games looks like this:

May 10: 5 innings as DH
May 12: 5 innings as 2B
May 13: 7 innings as 2B
May 15: 7 innings as 2B
May 16: TBD

Amaro indicated that even if Utley was totally healthy already, which is not yet, he still wouldn't bring him up.

"He needs more at-bats," Amaro said. "Even if he was 100 percent, he doesn't have enough at-bats right now."
