Tadahito Iguchi is back.

The Phillies are expected to announce today that Iguchi has come to a contract agreement with the Phillies, a baseball source told The Inquirer. The San Diego Padres recently released Iguchi on Monday.

Iguchi is expected to join the Phillies before tomorrow's game against the Mets. He missed nearly two months this season because of a separated right shoulder. He hit .231 with two homers and 24 RBIs in 81 games for the Padres. He hit .309 against NL East teams.

Iguchi, who spent two months with the Phillies last season, would be ineligible for the postseason should the Phillies win the NL East or wild card.

Update: It's official. The Phillies have signed Iguchi. They will make room for Iguchi on the 40-man roster before tomorrow's game.

Hopefully he helps. He can't be a worse option than Bruntlett or Taguchi... if he hits for the Phils like he did last season, he can hopefully give Utley a day off here and there, which clearly would help. Plus, he a smart player, plays hard, and with passion. This team could certainly use a little more of all of those things.

Unless it's a contract that extends beyond this yae, i'm not sure I see the point.

At least this give So Taguchi someone to talk to on the bench.

I know it's nice to have veteran bats around for the bench, but hopefully he hits better here than he did the rest of the year. If he goes 1 for his first 8, I'd call it a net loss when you could have someone else taking the same ABs.

so he is only going to play for two weeks then his season is over?

I like it. But is it too little too late?

Another move that is too little too late. Is this the move that is going to secure the pennant? A released utility (journeyman) infielder... I dont think so. Gee whiz... CC Sabathia or Tadahito Iguchi. Let me think about that for a nano-second. With the Phillies having a blockbuster year at the ticket gates, why couldnt they spend some more money before the trade deadline and rent a player to help win the pennant and the World Series? The Phillies and Eagles dont care about championships. They only want to field a competitive team so that they can maximize ticket revenues and say look how close we came... And us dummies keep buying their tickets and getting pumped up hoping for a championship. When will we learn?

I like Iguchi too and it'll be good to see him back. He's a welcome addition off the bench and I think is a better option than Bruntlett. It'd be nice to see him sign a few year deal in the offseason. . .

The Phillies lack two things that aren't in the stats: 1) Leadership 2) Swagger you can always develope swagger but leadership is harder to find. Rollins or Utley seem to fit the mold but but neither one has been able to put the team on their back and perform. Other than a true ace at the top of the rotation a leader with a strong personality is what the Phillies need, they are a nice club with a lot of pieces but they need some glue type of guys (Aaron Rowand) to make the pieces fit.

Utley has had maybe two days off all year, and now they are going to give him days off "here and there" with 22 games left? That's pretty funny.

better option than brunlette. plus he was here last year--good luck charm on our bench

Oh cool ok. It's not like we have a top infield prospect that we could call up to give at bats instead of signing another unproductive bench ba-- Oh wait. Jason Donald. Why is there still this refusal to call Donald up?

Always with the Rowand stuff. We all need to get over it. He wanted way more money than he was worth.

boyep2 - The Phils probably don't want to give Donald (or Carrasco for that matter) the jump start on service time - typical phillies mgmt - always thinking with the checkbook first!!

Well, this should certainly put us over the top. Kudo's to Gillick, Amaro and Arbuckle on another great pickup.

Brauny, you are a loser! CC or Tad? Like the Phillies CHOSE Tad over CC? They didn't have enough to trade for him genius!!!! The Brewers had the best minor league position player in baseball. And now you think that the Eagles don'twanna win a Super Bowl? Are you crazy? Jeffrey Lurie would kill for a Super Bowl! You are one of those guys that Rollins was talking about.

boyep2, great point! That is the best post on here. I don't now what they are svinghim for. The Reading season is over, he is highly touted, he isn't gonna lose confidence(in fact it might help him his confidence that he made it to the big leagues), there is no limit on players, you don't have to drop anyone. Am I missing something? Donald and Carrasco should AT least be sittig on the bench, but I guess that would mean their major league service time would start! G-d forbid they have an extra three weeks towards that, over possibly helping the team win.

I'm happy about the move, he played good for us last year. We need some consistent hitting on this team. I can't believe no one is hitting over 300 right now. Wish we got Rowand back.

We needed Myers to step up and he did...8 innings, 3 hits, 2 walks (1 intentional), 10 strikeouts, 118 pitches (81 for strikes). Impressive. I have to say that I finally believe that he has turned himself around. Two more to go which, if the forecast is correct, will come in the form of a double header on Sunday.

A bit of a nail bitter there by "Lights Out" Lidge! GREAT WIN!! Myers was fantastic. Just imagine if he pitched like that all season?!? Now let's hope they can play tomorrow. If not looks like a day/night doubleheader on Sunday. Also very cool Schmidt sending the Phils an email to cheer/coach/encourage the team. Whata classy gesture.

I love this signing but it doesn't give the Silent Six any relief, I can only hope they sell this team to a Philly owned company like Comcast who would allow them the flexibility to handle the payroll so that they would sell tickets but also go for a championship. yeah I'll just keep dreaming I guess.

I said I would do it.......I must finally eat crow and give credit where credit is due. I never in my life expected Myers to put it all together while still in a Phillies uniform. He has proven me wrong with his physical performance the last 7 starts and most impressively with his mental toughness the last 2, against the Cubs and now the Mets. Brett I am impressed. Now, do you have another half dozen gems like this one tonight in your pocket to get us through the rest of the year? And why didn't you pitch even close to this good the whole first half of the season? Maybe these games wouldn't even matter by now?

Lot of excitement for a guy hitting .231. Then again thats close to what most of the team is hitting. Now the game. They can't hit the ball ! They can't hit the ball ! They can't hit the ball ! Utley, hasn't had a clutch hit in months. His numbers are really good. Another example how numbers lie......Last (22) games lets go with 4man rotation.

The Phillies pick up a guy who proved last year he can come through in the clutch and some of you are whinning because they didn't bring up a couple of inexpierenced AA guys to play the most important games of the season. Seems to me the cheap way would have been to bring up the Reading players and pay nothing for them.

Short memory folks. Iguchi is the best situation hitter in the league. There is none better when it comes to making contact, moving a runner along, sacrificing and getting his bat on the ball in key situations. The Phillies don't have anyone like that on their roster. Yes, he will be a pinch hitter.

Myers did what was most needed--kept the middle relief in the pen and let Lidge finish the job. (What a turnaround for Myers, huh??!!) The offense did not do much last night, but they were up against a hot pitcher themselves. Good teams do just what's needed to win. That's what the Phils did last yera and what they did last night. A good sign. I really hope Jamie Moyer can do the job. We need at least 6 innings and no more than 3 runs from him. Go Phils!

pat h.......Chase did ground out, in the first, to score Victorino. Not a *hit*, but technically, that's all we needed for the win last night.
