Tadahito Iguchi is back.
The Phillies are expected to announce today that Iguchi has come to a contract agreement with the Phillies, a baseball source told The Inquirer. The San Diego Padres recently released Iguchi on Monday.
Iguchi is expected to join the Phillies before tomorrow's game against the Mets. He missed nearly two months this season because of a separated right shoulder. He hit .231 with two homers and 24 RBIs in 81 games for the Padres. He hit .309 against NL East teams.
Iguchi, who spent two months with the Phillies last season, would be ineligible for the postseason should the Phillies win the NL East or wild card.
Update: It's official. The Phillies have signed Iguchi. They will make room for Iguchi on the 40-man roster before tomorrow's game.
I'm happy about the move, he played good for us last year. We need some consistent hitting on this team. I can't believe no one is hitting over 300 right now. Wish we got Rowand back. nmr82
In a non-related topic, Manuel needs to be fired. nmr82
We needed Myers to step up and he did...8 innings, 3 hits, 2 walks (1 intentional), 10 strikeouts, 118 pitches (81 for strikes). Impressive. I have to say that I finally believe that he has turned himself around. Two more to go which, if the forecast is correct, will come in the form of a double header on Sunday. bski
GREAT WIN!!!! Clinton, NJ
A bit of a nail bitter there by "Lights Out" Lidge! GREAT WIN!! Myers was fantastic. Just imagine if he pitched like that all season?!? Now let's hope they can play tomorrow. If not looks like a day/night doubleheader on Sunday. Also very cool Schmidt sending the Phils an email to cheer/coach/encourage the team. Whata classy gesture. KarenA
I love this signing but it doesn't give the Silent Six any relief, I can only hope they sell this team to a Philly owned company like Comcast who would allow them the flexibility to handle the payroll so that they would sell tickets but also go for a championship. yeah I'll just keep dreaming I guess. skater262
Hey Rob Cherry! You cold at least spell his name right. It's Charry doof! joedugan

Myers is our TRUE Ace! Rest up guys. You'll probably be playing a double header on Sunday. Norma
I said I would do it.......I must finally eat crow and give credit where credit is due. I never in my life expected Myers to put it all together while still in a Phillies uniform. He has proven me wrong with his physical performance the last 7 starts and most impressively with his mental toughness the last 2, against the Cubs and now the Mets. Brett I am impressed. Now, do you have another half dozen gems like this one tonight in your pocket to get us through the rest of the year? And why didn't you pitch even close to this good the whole first half of the season? Maybe these games wouldn't even matter by now? Mark1npt
Lot of excitement for a guy hitting .231. Then again thats close to what most of the team is hitting. Now the game. They can't hit the ball ! They can't hit the ball ! They can't hit the ball ! Utley, hasn't had a clutch hit in months. His numbers are really good. Another example how numbers lie......Last (22) games lets go with 4man rotation. pat h- The Phillies pick up a guy who proved last year he can come through in the clutch and some of you are whinning because they didn't bring up a couple of inexpierenced AA guys to play the most important games of the season. Seems to me the cheap way would have been to bring up the Reading players and pay nothing for them. RichG
Short memory folks. Iguchi is the best situation hitter in the league. There is none better when it comes to making contact, moving a runner along, sacrificing and getting his bat on the ball in key situations. The Phillies don't have anyone like that on their roster. Yes, he will be a pinch hitter. jrquixote
WHERE IS CHASE UTLEY? Truth- Myers did what was most needed--kept the middle relief in the pen and let Lidge finish the job. (What a turnaround for Myers, huh??!!) The offense did not do much last night, but they were up against a hot pitcher themselves. Good teams do just what's needed to win. That's what the Phils did last yera and what they did last night. A good sign. I really hope Jamie Moyer can do the job. We need at least 6 innings and no more than 3 runs from him. Go Phils! bobby
