Iguchi Is Back

POSTED: Friday, September 5, 2008, 3:05 PM

Tadahito Iguchi is back.

The Phillies are expected to announce today that Iguchi has come to a contract agreement with the Phillies, a baseball source told The Inquirer. The San Diego Padres recently released Iguchi on Monday.

Iguchi is expected to join the Phillies before tomorrow's game against the Mets. He missed nearly two months this season because of a separated right shoulder. He hit .231 with two homers and 24 RBIs in 81 games for the Padres. He hit .309 against NL East teams.

Iguchi, who spent two months with the Phillies last season, would be ineligible for the postseason should the Phillies win the NL East or wild card.

Update: It's official. The Phillies have signed Iguchi. They will make room for Iguchi on the 40-man roster before tomorrow's game.

Oh cool ok. It's not like we have a top infield prospect that we could call up to give at bats instead of signing another unproductive bench ba-- Oh wait. Jason Donald. Why is there still this refusal to call Donald up?

Always with the Rowand stuff. We all need to get over it. He wanted way more money than he was worth.

boyep2 - The Phils probably don't want to give Donald (or Carrasco for that matter) the jump start on service time - typical phillies mgmt - always thinking with the checkbook first!!

Well, this should certainly put us over the top. Kudo's to Gillick, Amaro and Arbuckle on another great pickup.

Brauny, you are a loser! CC or Tad? Like the Phillies CHOSE Tad over CC? They didn't have enough to trade for him genius!!!! The Brewers had the best minor league position player in baseball. And now you think that the Eagles don'twanna win a Super Bowl? Are you crazy? Jeffrey Lurie would kill for a Super Bowl! You are one of those guys that Rollins was talking about.

boyep2, great point! That is the best post on here. I don't now what they are svinghim for. The Reading season is over, he is highly touted, he isn't gonna lose confidence(in fact it might help him his confidence that he made it to the big leagues), there is no limit on players, you don't have to drop anyone. Am I missing something? Donald and Carrasco should AT least be sittig on the bench, but I guess that would mean their major league service time would start! G-d forbid they have an extra three weeks towards that, over possibly helping the team win.
