Here's a statement issued by Ruben Amaro on Ryan Howard, who has been in and out of the hospital with a hight fever all weekend:
“Ryan Howard was seen by Dr. Marc Harwood today. After reviewing previous tests and evaluating him, Dr. Harwood has diagnosed him with acute sinusitis. His fever is gone and he will rest at home today. If he feels better, Ryan will travel tomorrow to Tampa Bay to rejoin the team. We are hopeful he will be able to play tomorrow as well.”

Good news. Need his bat in our suddenly anemic lineup. Now, if needed, we can play Dobbs in left instead of Stairs. We were sitting up the left field line yesterday so we couldn't see what was going on, but it seemed like it took Stairs 5 minutes to get the ball back in on those two balls he played in the corner. He really needs to be used solely as a pinch hitter, IMHO.— bski- bski, only saw one of those plays, but it def took a bad bounce. Rather than kicking back out, which it almost always does, the ball skidded under the padding along the wall. Dobbs definitely wouldn't have played it any differently (nor Ibanez IMHO).— lmwsport7
- Howard's HR on Saturday w/100+ temp. was pretty impressive. Let's hope he goes on a tear. Also agree that having Dobbs in LF will be a better option. Nice also to see him get some ABs.— KarenA

- I was thinking today about how “lucky” I am to have attended the final game in each of the two most recent horrific home stands we have had in club history...........My family and I were at yesterday’s game to witness firsthand the conclusion of a 1-8 homestand. While it was great to see Hamels pitch like he did, the sleepwalking offense really sapped any positive energy he was able to generate...........We were also in attendance in 2004 when the Phils put the finishing touches on a 1-9 homestand by turning what looked like an easy victory into a loss by coughing up 7 runs in the 7th, 2 runs in the 8th, and dropping the final game to the Astros...........Ah, special memories...........I only wish my father was enough of a fan to have taken me to the final game of the only other horrendous homestand in my lifetime, which was a loss to the Reds in 1979 that wrapped up another 1-8 homestand...........Oh well, 2 out of 3 ain’t bad.— bski
- Why do we continue to complain about pitching to the exclusion of the biggest problem in this lineup; the total lack of a leadoff hitter!! Rollins stopped hitting, stopped running and stopped getting on base, in fact has an on base percentage that would be unacceptable in a #8 hitter, let alone a leadoff hitter. My oldest son, a stinkin' Yankee fan, says "that's what happens when you stop juicing!" I don't know for sure, Rollins' production has dropped precipitously since he was named MVP in 2007--- WHY???— DONDEN31

- Team's going thru a bad slump. Amazingly, they're still in first place. The Mets are in even worse shape;its too bad the Phils haven't put a 8-10 game cushion on them. But then the Phillies have never done anything the easy way. A number of things could help them break out... This is Ryan Howards time of the year; he goes on a tear and he carries the team. Jimmy Rollins wakes up, he can definitely spark the team. But most importantly, because pitching is the weak link on this team, Cole Hamels, as good as he pitched last time out, needs to step up big time and give us 2 or 3 complete game shutouts. That would definitely ramp up the pitching staff, maybe inspire the young starters... And Charlie has to start using his coaching talents to shake things up. It would be real nice if somewhere in that desert of a farm system they could find a young arm to bring up. But please, don't trade off young talent for another starter...— Cameiros
- Whats with all the Howard bashers? Are you serious? You think this team would be better off with him on the bench the rest of the season? Ok lets have Dobbs play first the rest of the year and try to replace 50+HRs and 140rbi's. Did any of you watch the last 2 septembers when Howard carried this team on his back? J-Roll is not a kid anymore. He needs to use a lighter bat instead of the power hiiter's war club he lugs up there. If he used Hamel's bat he'd have much better bat control. I'm surprised Charlie the hitter's coach isn't on him about it.— RAS- all you morons who rip howard and constantly complain on here should just crawl in a hole..how negative can you people be..rough patch, it sucks but we will be fine. the team will turn it around..go take your meds— philsfan in the atx
