Howard Out of Lineup

POSTED: Thursday, April 24, 2008, 10:50 AM

Ryan Howard is not in the Phillies' lineup for this afternoon's series finale against the Brewers at Miller Park.

I thought that might happen after Howard went 0 for 4 with two strikeouts last night in a 5-4 loss to the Brewers. Howard, who is hitting .181, whipped his bat to the dugout after both strikeouts and sat in front of his locker for several minutes after the game had ended.

You can tell he is terribly frustrated.

Today's lineup looks like this: 1) Jayson Werth 2) Greg Dobbs 3) Chase Utley 4) Pat Burrell 5) Geoff Jenkins 6) Pedro Feliz 7) Eric Bruntlett 8) Carlos Ruiz 9) Jamie Moyer.

GOOD! Ryan needs to worry more about baseball and less about going out with his buddies visiting from the the west coast!! Why do you think he was so bad in the Mets series, he was going out every night partying! Your buddies might be on vacation, but your not Ryan!

Thank God. I'm sure he'll come around... at some point. Much as it may seem like all I do is bash him, I don't think the guy ever mails it in. Don't doubt for a second he has heart, just a matter of putting all the pieces together. And when he does, he's about as dominant as they come. Anyway. Last night hurt, but it is amazing they are where they are considering RH and the loss of Rollins and Victorino. BP has been amazing, especially when you consider that Gordon 9th on opening day. Looking to get out of Milwaukee today with a win. Go Phils!

It's about time, hope he doesn't whine about it. Truth is he's killing this team right now.

i dont know what this will accomplish. he should have been moved to 5th in the lineup last week. how can you still bat burrell 5th with the numbers he's putting up? he's hot right now, go with it. who knows how long it will last. howard's swing is lazy and tired right now, swinging like the bat's too heavy. he goes up there guessing. he's swinging at breaking pitches that didnt even start as a strike. he's swinging at balls and getting into a 0-2 hole every at bat.

Hopefully this will do for Howard what it did for Burrell last year when he sat out a few games mid-season.

Should have been done a week ago....this team should be so many games better than they are right now....they have given away 7-8 of their 11 losses. Good teams don't do that and Howard has been a big contributor.

Manuel should give him tomorrow off too. Duke is Lefthanded and he doesn't hit him at all.

Change in the system today folks...look at the Post your comment, above on right. Seems there is some cutoff on count (5-6-7?) and you don't see anything after that. You have to hit View All Comments to see them all.

So Rollins injury is more severe than WE were initially told. How shocking? Is it really unfathomable that the Phillies would allow even encourage Rollins to play on it? How often have we jeard in sports that the tear can't get worse by playing on it. Get real ppl the Phillies are a BUSINESS as YOU bloggers often point out, they will do what is in their best interests not the players. It amazes that even though they are the losingest franchise in sports history YOU bloggers and reporters give them the benefit of the doubt. If it was just a "sprain" he would have healed by now. I implore you to think for yourselves. If YOU do YOU will see the light. This is Myers/Gordon 2k8. Zo' if they lied to your face how will you feel/report it?

Rollins does NOT have a fractured ankle. It's a bogus internet report.

Right now, having him out of the lineup can do only good. Get well, soon, Ryan.

How bad is it for Jason Kendall that the Brewers bat him in the 9 hole. I don't know if it is an ll the time thing or just these 2 games.

Howard obviously is struggling, but you cant single handed-ly blame one player for a team not winning. However se sat out a number of games last season, and tho with alot of strike outs, picked his game up immensly, i remember his first at bat after sitting out so many games , pinch hit, and nailed a grand slam, the boy just needs a couple days off and get his sh!t together

What a waste at an AB that should have not even let him(R. Howard) PH. Maybe an AL team is in need of a DH cause his skillz at 1b stink as well.

truth is an idiot. a sprain can be a lot worse than a fracture. a fracture can completely heal in 4 weeks. a sprain can keep players out for months. find a hobby other than posting on blogs.

The Phillies never "encouraged" him to play on it. Rollins told them he was feeling ok, not healed, but good enough to pinch hit. Trainers listen to the patient. And if you ever sprained anything (beside your brain), you would know that it can take weeks to recover and play at a high level. No sprain is the same. Once again, embarrassing.

He's supposed to be off for 2 days, until Cholly Bobblehead puts him back in today and he strikes out - TWICE!!! Now does that count as a day off, or does it start with the next game?
